Tried to set up a sonos beam to parents samsung tv. Upon setting it up, Once I disabled the tv speakers and tried pointing the tv remote control to adjust the volume a pop up box kept appearing saying’adjust speakers direct’ and this happened every time. Tried phoning sonos support - that was a mistake! After being on the phone for one and a half hours didn't get anywhere except for  them saying the tv remote control mustn't be infared, therefore the beam is not compatible!?!  Has anyone heard of this before!?  Many thanks.

What type of Samsung TV is it? Do you have the model number for both the TV set, and the remote? That would certainly help us look up the manual and give you information about what the remote might be doing. There’s also a FAQ  on the Sonos website about how to set up the remotes for some Samsung models.

I’m assuming that this Beam is connected to an ARC port on the Samsung? Or did they use the optical connection to go to the Sonos adapter? There’s a difference in the way those two connections work, for the remote.

Hi, the model number of the Samsung TV is UE48H4205AW.  Its connected using the optical connection. Thanks, I will also have a look at FAQ

What model is the remote? I’ve looked through the manual here:

https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201407/20140717154200021/1ENG]NLDVBEU1H-1010-0710.pdf

And found no mention whatsoever about what remote is shipped with that model TV.

It it is a One, the FAQ is here:

Unfortunately, I’m heading in to work, and won’t be able to follow this up for many hours. Good luck!
