Hello!

I am a newbie to Sonos, having shed an old Samsung soundbar (which was terrible!).  I have just ordered the Arc, and will soon complement with 2 x Era 100s (or 300s if my budget stretches!) and later the sub. I’ve gone round in circles trying to decide on the best configuration and it would be great to have more experienced help!

My TV (Sony Bravia, 4k) has eARC, but it doesn’t have enough HDMI inputs (I need for Apple TV, consoles FireStick, Virgin media box, DVD player).  My plan is:

  • TV to Arc via eARC
  • Inputs > HDMI switch > one of the my TV’s HDMI inputs

I want to maximise audio and display quality so will look for a HDMI switch with minimum 4k and Dolby Atmos pass through.  I’ve seen posts about Feintech, HDFury (expensive, great reviews, but I don’t think I need because I have eARC), Kinovo etc.  A couple of questions:

  1. Does this config make sense?
  2. What HDMI switch would you recommend (to maximise the capability of my Arc)?

Big thanks!!

Yes, your plan makes sense. You don’t need an HDFury/Feintech etc device, as your TV already has eARC.

No recommendations on a switch, I don’t use one, but any HDMI 2.1 compliant switch should be fine.

If you switch between sources often, I would prefer to use a switch coming with a remote control.

Brilliant - thanks! I’ll add HDMI 2.1 to the criteria for a switch

Definitely … esp as it won’t be super accessible once wired up

I’ve read good reviews about Roofull … sadly not easy to pick up in the UK!

Hello,

 I have a Earc capable tv with the Lytmi Fantasy 3 TV Backlight Kit HDMI 2.1 with Sync Box. There is a fire cube and gaming console plug into the hdmi Sync box however the Sonos arc will not produce sound when plugged in to the tv or the sync box but will produce sound when connected through the optical cable. I know this cause a lose of sound quality. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can still get Dolby Atmos?

Any help is greatly appreciate.

@Jay90gwin

I think this sync box doesn’t have a HDMI ARC iput… so you jave to use the one of your tv with the Sonos Arc. If the source devices are connected to thensync box it depends on what kind of audio format it can pass through. If the tv audio settings then are set correctly audio should work well. Settings mostly need to be earc on and digital audio format „automatic“ or „pass through“. In detail this depends on your tv model.

Sorry @buzz … I just saw this one and so was answering. Double posts are trash… 😉

Sorry for the double post, it was my first time posting to the Sonos community. I thought the question should have been in a different thread I should have deleted the old one first.

@Jay90gwin

Ok. no problem… next time you know about. 😉
