My Sonos arc has always worked fine and volume controlled by all remotes. I paused a show for a moment and when I returned the sonos arc was off and I am unable to even turn it on (get a light of any sort) again.

Be sure TV Autoplay is enabled in the Sonos app. You can also try unplugging the Arc from power for a couple of minutes. If this doesn’t work, redo the TV Setup process in the Sonos app.
It’s also possible the TV shut down CEC. As a precaution, it might be worth both checking the TV for updates, then unplugging it from the wall for 5 minutes, to force a reload of the OS.
