Bought a sonos hdmi to optical converter.  Tried everything, but can not get the optical to light up and connect to soundbar.  Also tried a converter from Amazon, tried different HDMI cords.  Speaker works when connected to satellite box via optic cable. I do not want to replace an 8 year old sound bar for $1200, when I just saved $650 buying an 85" tv.  Anyone had any luck with this?

Fyi, I also had a pretty good Samsung tech guy on the phone that turned all the appropriate outputs on to engage the eArc to no avail. It's like the converters don't work, or the E ARC is not sending a signal.

What tv model? What Audio Out settings have you tried?

Samsung, DU6900 just purchased last week.  I've tried all the audio settings,  as has the Samsung tech.

I guess, I'm wondering if the HDMI eArc signal is compatible with a now obsolete Sonos Play bar that is 8 years old, but worked perfectly till my old tv cratered.

Note the Sonos Adapter is ‘Optical-to-HDMI’ only. It works just the one way around only with the HDMI usually connected to a Sonos Beam/Arc etc. soundbar …and the optical side connected to the TV - it cannot be used connected to an HDMI ARC/eARC port on a TV.

@JAM99999,

I’d perhaps goto your online local Amazon store and search for an "HDMI-ARC audio extractor” that outputs the TV audio to optical.

That is likely the issue.  Anyone know of a specific converter that can works the other way around?

You will need an audio extractor, as mentioned above… here’s an example of one (of many) on Amazon:

Disclaimer: The above was just chosen at random - please research further before purchase to ensure it will fulfill your TV/Audio requirements. You may find it cheaper elsewhere and there maybe more suitable products for your audio needs too.
