I am at the end of my rope.

I have a projector that has one hardwired HDMI output. This was previously connected to an AV receiver that we attached a Roku to, which we used to watch things on the projector with sound coming out the speakers.

Getting the Amp was supposed to render the receiver obsolete. I connected the Amp to the hardwired speakers, which works great to listen to music. However, I have not been able to figure out how to get the Roku signal out to the projector and the Amp. I bought an HDMI splitter that is supposed to be able to do this, connected the Roku to one input and the Amp and projector each to an output. However, this has not worked either.

What other options do I have to route the Roku audio to my Amp and video to the projector?

ARC accepts HDMI-ARC OR HDMI-eARC, it does not support traditional old HDMI. If your projector has an analog audio output, connect this to AMP’s Line-In. If the projector has an optical output, use an optical to analog audio converter connected to Line-In.

Your HDMI splitter might provide an optical audio output.

The only thing I have to connect my projector is an HDMI cable that is hardwired into the wall. I would have no way of getting a different output from it.

What is feeding that HDMI connection?

What is feeding that HDMI connection?

Indeed. The bit I am struggling with is how the video got from the Roku to the projector in the original setup.

@Technologyhater  - the HDMI on the projector is definitely an output not an input?

@Technologyhater, I understand the in-wall wire comes from the Projector's HDMI input, right? If you don't want to rewire your projector, you'll need a splitter like one of these:

Thanks all. The projector’s hardwired HDMI can be connected directly to the Roku Ultra, but then there is no sound. Previously we used an AV receiver between the 2 to get sound and video. Now, the Amp is supposed to replace the AV receiver. But the problem is getting audio from Roku to Amp and video from Roku to projector. It sounds like the projector doesn't support ARC/eARC, and there is no optical audio output from the Roku that I could connect to the Amp. Roku also doesn't let me add Sonos devices wirelessly, of course.

I bought an HDMI splitter on Amazon that didn't work. Is the solution here just… a different splitter?

Could you provide a link to the splitter you bought please?

Have you looked at this unit? It may be just what you need.

I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/Splitter-Soundbar-Switch-Bi-Direction-Extractor/dp/B0BNSY3VKW/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=GYUSLMWZJYCM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.e88VPsI98hmA3nrKPq3L_YVkfXAHNO7Ya1i_pyCINCn37c2OSAwyBT69mVM3ffY0YMixp1tADURbY0cH56kEZW-_16PFBjqXmMFT2ZGVphlgGidAurjh6nL8DsMmgnUsUn9diYfEM-z7IiOmG1dOZd-E_-cM8KC_jZeE1H1vZOiHPjSA2CzCLzxXIZRNlm41end6YZWy6HWAjGU4SE9Kig.GN6hlnrGLkjQkcD9wY9a9jwtrkTWwklY_a8O1E4eEPM&dib_tag=se&keywords=hdmi+splitter+with+audio+extractor+earc+to+soundbar&qid=1730154132&sprefix=hdmi+splitter+with+audio+extractor+earc+to+soundba%2Caps%2C252&sr=8-7

Almost positive I set it up correctly, but the projector said it had no devices connected when I turned everything on. FWIW the box that arrived had clearly been opened before, so I imagine it's a unit that did not work for someone else or is faulty.

Regarding the OREI link above - looks like you need an ARC/eARC TV for that one? But my projector doesn't have that.

Is the Arcana really the only solution?

I’m using Arcana on a TV that was too old/cheap to support ARC. I’m not familiar with them offhand, but there are less expensive alternatives to Arcana.
