Hi

Can anyone advise on audio settings on my ps5 pro with a Sonos arc ultra?

Currently have ps5 set to av amplifier and 7.1 channels, as well as linear pcm.

According to Sonos app that gives me multichannel 7.1.

Anything I should change?

Thanks

Hi @ledzep1

Thanks for your post! And, apologies for the delay.

I don’t have a PS5 (or an Arc Ultra, yet), so my knowledge of what settings are available to you are limited, but I did do a quick search and it seems Dolby Atmos should be an option for you. As far as I can ascertain, PS5 will output Atmos MAT, which will need eARC to work - if your TV has an eARC socket (it will if you see McLPCM reported in the app), Atmos should be a better option for you than McLPCM.

For anyone reading this who does not have eARC, I don’t think PS5 will output in Dolby Digital + (the only way to get Atmos through HDMI-ARC), so Dolby Digital is probably the best setting in this case.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Ive never tried Atmos even though its available to me, as I always see mention of people having audio delay with atmos on the consoles.

Hi @ledzep1

There is probably a small encoding delay that may or not be noticeable, but I haven’t had a console since the original PlayStation so I cannot say for sure.

As you are looking for the best sound, I think it would be worth checking out, at least.

If we forget about height channels for a moment, McLPCM will be of similar audio quality to Atmos MAT - the main difference is that the immersion won’t be the same without those height channels. Whether you’d even notice anymore once you’ve been playing for more than 15 minutes is another matter.

I hope this helps.
