Connected my 2016 player, base and 2 play one speakers to a new Sony Bravia 8 tv. Worked great for 30 minutes then when I adjusted the volume down using the phone app sound became a choppy clucking noise. 

Not really enough information to start guessing. Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
