I am reaching out to inquire whether the configuration described in the following Apple support document can be achieved with my current setup:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/102310

Devices in Use

  • Sonos Beam Gen2
  • Apple TV 4K (Dolby Atmos supported)
  • Sony TV (KJ-40W700C)
    • Not compatible with Dolby Atmos
    • eARC not supported, ARC supported

Background of the Inquiry

The current setup is as follows:

Sonos Beam Gen2 <--> TV <--> Apple TV 4K

According to Apple support, since the TV does not support Dolby Atmos or eARC, the Apple TV 4K cannot output Dolby Atmos content through this configuration.

As an alternative, Apple support suggested a configuration described in the link below. However, this setup seems to require connecting the soundbar to both the Apple TV 4K and the TV via HDMI. Given that the Sonos Beam Gen2 only has one HDMI port, I would like to ask how this setup could be implemented.

For your reference, I have also reviewed the following Apple support page:

You are right. You cannot connect an ATV directly to a Sonos Beam. Not only does because it only has the one HDMI-connection, but also becuase it expects an HDMI-ATC signal.

Ans indeed, a TV that does not do Atmos also does not do pass through for Atmos (though the term "pass through” inplicates it would).

You could look for a TV that does do Atmos or look to the Feintech or HDFury Arcana eARC adapters.

As a side note, it is funny to me you share your set up starting with the beam:

Sonos Beam Gen2 <--> TV <--> Apple TV 4K

I'd “follow the sound”:

Apple TV 4K --> TV → Sonos Beam Gen2
