I would like to have surround sound for the sofa viewing position, and some kind of setup in the kitchen area so the TV can be heard. Any suggestions?

I would recommend a standard setup for the living room area.  As far as the kitchen area, there isn’t really a great solution for this.  You create 2 separate Sonos rooms in your system, where each room can play the same audio or different audio.  This works fine for music sources, but for TV sources, the 2nd room that is added (kitchen in your case) is slightly delay and will create an echo effect.  There are technical reasons for this, and it’s not an issue if the rooms are separately by walls, but in an open space like this, it’s problematic.

I would probably just go without an accept that you aren’t going to hear TV as well in the kitchen as you are on the sofa.  My kitchen/family room space is about the same size as yours, but the kitchen is behind, not to the side, of the living room.  The audio caries just fine to the kitchen.  However, I found that wanted to constantly turn around in the kitchen to see the TV, so I wired a 2nd TV (computer monitor really) that always plays the same video as the main TV, via an HDMI splitter.  This does require wiring in the walls, and a spot for a TV in the kitchen, but you should be able to connect a 2nd Sonos soundbar to that 2nd TV and get the audio to play nearly in sync, with separate volume for the 2 spaces.  Probably more than you want to do, but there is that.

With the open architecture layout you’ll probably hear the TV just fine in the kitchen.  Dolby Atmos surround will be somewhat compromised as there is no wall on the left side of the living room.  It will still sound pretty darn good though.

don’t know the furniture layout in the kitchen, but a pair of 100s for a more intimate music listening session in the kitchen would work well.

I’d lean to a pair of 100s, possibly on top of the cabinets near the sink in the kitchen.
