So I’ve had my system (Arc, Era300 x2 + Gen3 sub) for a year now - thinking if I spend £2.5k on a system, it’s gonna be good right?

My old Polk system for circa £600 was much better - I mean it had a remote control right? and audio and optical inputs - amazing! Oh, and Google assistant, that actually worked properly. And I could tune the speakers with actual volume buttons, to suit me! I mean, we don’t ask much right - lol.

My buggest gripe with the Sonos Arc system is the awful dialogue enhancement - which does nothing. On the Polk system, I have a separeate volume to turn the human dialogue up and down to suit me.

Sonos Arc system is just such a step backwards is SOOOO many ways.

Anyway, the sound signal from the TV comes from optical out, with the HMDI converter.

QUESTIONS:___

Do I spend another £1200 +/- to upgrade the TV, so I can use the eARC output?
Will this improve human dialogue?
Or do I ditch the Sonos system, to one that actually works properly?

Thanks,
A very disappointed Sonos owner.

While I may agree that when this setting is off, there is a need for improvement but when switched on, dialogue enhancement works well for me.

You are not getting the full experience with the optical output, especially of you watch content with Dolby Atmos, If you do not need to reproduce Dolby Atmos audio, the optical connection is fine.

I switched from a Playbar to the Arc last Christmas. I was a little disappointed at first because the Playbar is a warmer sounding speaker. But after adding the Sub and surrounds, the Arc blew the Playbar away with its performance! The sound stage is so much bigger now and it breathed new life into my Sub and surrounds. I just had to reduce the treble to -2 to compensate for the harsh highs the Arc has. Now I am satisfied with my HT system.

If you do not watch content that has Dolby Atmos, spending on a new TV may not be the best thing to do.

You say you are disappointed in Sonos and you do praise what you had before. You don't need anyone here to tell you what to do to make yourself happy.

This is a Sonos community, and I love my system. Is it right for everyone? No it is not.

Do what you think is best to reduce the stress of not having what you expect for your entertainment.

A new TV would give you the possibility to let the TV remote command the TV via HDMI-CEC, instead of having to teach the soundbar the TV remote codes.
