Hi. We wanted to create a surround sound so we’re advised to buy the beam and 2 SL 1 speakers but we aren’t getting the sound we had before. We were told Sonos is the best so are disappointed. Anyone able to give some advice please? We don’t have a very big room and at the moment we have one speaker to the back left of the room, the beam in front of the sofa under the TV and the other speaker in the right corner of the room. Thanks!

  1. Are the two Ones added as surrounds (are they all listed as a single room)?  If not, see this link: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/add-surround-speakers-to-a-sonos-home-theater
  2. When added as surrounds, check the Now Playing screen for the audio format (lower left icon).  It should say Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Atmos.  If it says Stereo or PCM 2.0, you aren’t getting surround sound and need to change the settings on your TV and/or source device (list them here and we can advise).
  3. Ideally the surround speakers should be behind the listener and to the sides.  If the right one is in the front of the room, you aren’t going to get the full surround effect.

Thanks so much for getting back. I’ll check all that when I get home. Also - is it possible to play your music playlists and radio through the Sonos system?

Yes, it is.  You can add a service, or add your local library to Sonos.  You can use the service’s playlists, or make your own Sonos playlists.  The radio stations are available through TuneIn, as well as other services.

Thanks. I’ll try that later. One final question - is there a remote that can be used for the volume when using Sonos? I seem to be able to only lower the volume from my phone which isn’t great if someone calls you on it and you need to turn the TV down!

You should be able to use the TV remote.  See this link:

Thanks so much for your help!
