Hello Community,
I am renovating my house and am planning to have a TV in 2 rooms that have in ceiling speaker, which are connected to a Sonos AMP. Those AMPs are in the utility room that is about 40 feet away.
I want to make sure that I can connect the TVs to the AMPs for sound output. I read in other threads that an optical fiber HDMI would be best.
Questions:
1. Can anyone recommend a good optical fiber eARC HDMI?
There are lots of good options out there. I would make sure the cable is rated for inwall use, for the distance you need, is eARC compatible and has good customer ratings. I’ve had no issues with cables I’ve bought, but I haven’t bought anything in about 4 years and didn’t need eARC at the time. Technically, the Amp doesn’t use eARC, but future proofing is a good idea.
This was my last HDMI cable purchase.
I found those so far: Monoprice, RUIPRO
- Those HDMI’s have 2 different ends, one is source one is display. In my case the TV can be the source and the display depending on how you look at it. Can someone please explain which one it is?
Thank you all!
‘Source’ and ‘Display’ are in reference to the flow of video, not necessarily audio. In the case of connecting a TV and amp together the ‘Source’ end is connecting to the Amp (Amp actually sends a screen saver image to the TV) and ‘Display’ end is connected to the TV.
For further info, video always flows for source to display, and there is always (almost always) audio flowing with the video. If ARC (Audio Return Channel), some of the pins are used to return audio from the display back to the source.
