Hi, i have an open space floor plan (see pic), and I’m going to use multiple Amps to set up home sound.  In the living space, I’ll have an Arc with 2 rear ceiling Sonos Sonances forming an Atmos system, connecting to a single Amp,  and then I’ll have 2 to 3 pairs of Sonances in the large open area covering the kitchen, dining and living area.  (And I'll have outdoor speakers connected to an Amp; there are two outside decks, where the grids on either side of room are).

Question: If I'm not using the Arc and Rear speakers as home theater/TV, can I switch their use/incorporate them into a larger all-over system? If so, then I won’t need an extra pair of Sonance speakers in the living area. I know the Amp can control up to 3 pairs, but they have to play the same sound.

If I have the 2 rear speakers on one Sonos Amp, can I also connect two more pairs of Sonances to the same Amp, have the 2 pair shut off when doing Atmos, and then have the option to shift over all 3 pairs  supporting the all-over system? (sorry, i couldn’t figure out how to rotate the pic)

Another wild card: the large room space is on a shed/slanted vaulted celling, with the left side up to 14 ft, sloping down to 9ft on the other side. Any thoughts on how that will effect the layout? Certainly I am going to make use of Trueplay.

I appreciate anyone’s expertise on this! (Hey, there needs a Tag for multi-room sound set-up, and Ceiling set-up)

Unless you wire in wall mounted volume controls, you cannot turn off individual pairs connected to an Amp.  The Amp has one set of speaker connectors, and you wire all 3 pairs to the one set of connectors.

ah, thanks for that.  I had hoped I  could adjust the volume on a pair of speakers with the app.

So first, I’m assuming the blue block represents where the Arc will be?  Above the fireplace?    Either way, I would not use ceiling speakers for rear surround.  Rear surround is supposed to come from behind you, to the side, not from above.  This is particularly true when using atmos, as the atmos channels send audio from above.  I would strongly recommend you use inwall speakers in the back, or Sonos One SLs on stands if that makes more sense.  Also, do plan on getting a sub.

Yes, the Arc and Rear speakers can play music as well as TV, and can group with other speakers in your home.  You can have only the Arc play music, or the Arc and rears play music.  You can’t have the rears play music by themselves.

No, not really.  You could get a separate speaker switch and manually turn on/off speakers (volume control) to for your different pairs of speakers, but Sonos can’t do this programmatically.  Having done something like this in the past before, I’m not a fan.  It gets annoying rather quickly.  Part of the advantage of Sonos is being able to control with the app, and you lose that when you involve speaker switches and such that you intend to incorporate into your control plan.

I’m not following exactly where the slope is, but it will have an impact on atmos.  The upfiring speakers on the Arc will bounce off the ceiling to the target seating area.  Not sure trueplay will be able to overcome that.

Some added thoughts, your diagram doesn’t have room dimensions, but I don’t think you’ll need a second pair of speakers in the kitchen area.  One pair should be fine.  Can’t really comment on the outdoor space.

Thanks, Danny. Yes, the blue rectangle is the Arc. Good idea, i can put the Blue rears into the wall

OK, if I have the blue rears connected to an Amp for TV surround, I can have them also play music in synch with the other 3 pairs in the house.  Good deal.  Yes, I might as well get a sub.

OK, and if I want to just play speakers only in the kitchen, I would need to connect that to a separate Amp.
