My sonos sub is connected to a sonos amp (and two speakers) in my lounge. I have been trying unsuccessfully to relocate the sub to the TV room and add it to the beam and TV setup.

When I try “remove sub” from the amp, as well as reboot/reset and swtiched off the sub, it still somehow remains as an “unassigned sub” on the app (I would think it should disappear from the app altogether so that you could reconnect to a new room as if it were a new sub). When I then try and assign it to the TV room I get the error “there was a problem adding your sub. Check the network..”

There don’t seem to be any settings option to get around this dead end. I am able to assign it back to the amp.

the odd thing is I have done this before a few times successfully on the old app, so I am not sure if the bug is on the new app, or on perhaps a beam upgrade which makes it unable to see the sub?

If after you remove the sub from the Amp it should show as unassigned as you say. When you are trying to add it to your Beam the app should show available devices that will accept the sub and the Beam should be one of them. If the Beam does not show as an available unit then I suggest you reboot your Beam. Make sure the Sub and Beam are in the same room when trying to add.

You don't have "WiFi disabled" on the Beam?

It seems sensible to me that it shows up as "unassigned". Unlike every other Sonos component, the Sub cannot be a room in its own right. If left powered on it is just a power sucking waste of space.

Thanks for the quick reply!

However the beam does show as an available unit. It is part of a room labelled TV Room which also has two sonos One’s connected.

Say i wanted to sell the sub - then I would “remove” it and reset it before giving the sub away. Then why would there still be an “unassigned sub” on the app? Surely it would disappear from my app?

This is effectively what I am faced with now as I want the TV room to see it as a new sub when i power it back on

Thanks for the reply John!

But the sub has been removed, reset and powered off - why would it even show up as unassigned? For all intents and purposes I could have taken it to Mars as it’s no longer on the network.

It will stop showing up in the app after a couple of days.

I don't understand why you reset it. A Sub can be transferred directly from one room to another, or can be unassigned for a while then added to a different room.

If it won't add to your Beam there must be some reason specific to your system. Please confirm that WiFi is enabled on the Beam.

I had already tried transferring to another room directly, but it didn’t work giving the same reason “there was a problem adding your sub. Check the network..” So I then tried resetting it so that the system could see it as a new sub since when I first bought the sub it had been connected to the TV room.

I think the beam should be wifi enabled since it was connected previously to the sub, and also is currently connected to 2 Sonos One’s via wifi. I will double check the connection when I get home but can’t see its current functioning working without being enabled.

Thanks.

if that’s true then hopefully i can start from scratch once it has disappeared and connect it to the TV room as a new sub. Seems a bit arbitrary that it takes a few days to disappear

If the Beam is working and is not connected to your network by Ethernet then WiFi is enabled.
