I have the EXACT same expirience .
I actualy feel I get mere bass when switching the sub off in settings .
Hope for a solution or explanation soon.
Has TruePlay been executed?
Has TruePlay been executed?
Yes this is after TruePlay.
I swiched from Arc+sub to Arc Ultra+sub . so the difference is very noticeable regarding the bass from the sub
Yes trueplay been executed too. We really need to know what to do (if there something to do…?).
Anyone at sonos could tell us if will there be an update for this ?
Buying a better sound bar to get less power from the Sub is a problem…
Just received my Arc Ultra (to replace my existing Arc). My setup is Arc Ultra, 2 x Era 300, 1 x Sub Gen 3. After several failed attempts to initiate advanced trueplay tuning on Ipad IOS it finally worked. However I noticed that the sub bass was almost non-existent. I have to turn it upto +10 to feel some rumble. I saw some previous threads that this was an issue before with the Arc and sub but had been allegedly fixed with software update. However this issue of quiet sub bass is an issue for me. Especially when I compare it to the previous Arc plus sub sound. I know I can turn off trueplay but doesn't that defeat one of the main selling points of an optimized sonos setup. Seems that other people are having the same issue.
Arc Ultra + 300’s + 2 Sub’s
Bass is completely broken…
my Arc + 1’s + sub, sound better
I posted this in a different thread before but it seems more fitting here:
I have got the same impression. Arc ultra, upgraded from an Arc, 2 Era 300 as Surrounds and a 4Gen and 3Gen Sub, upgraded from a 3Gen and 2Gen.
Left the settings as they are, true play measured twice in advanced mode. The surround speakers are very present and loud in this configuration while the bass at the same time is absolutely underwhelming. I cranked up the sub level to +2 and the Equalizer Bass setting to +1 but still I am missing the spine and stomach shaking whoomp below 120hz that I got used to from my 2G and 3G sub.
I love how the Arc ultra plays in every direction with almost pinpoint accuracy. That is pretty much the same feeling I had when the Arc replaced my Playbar. The surround speakers may be toned down a bit, but I really am missing bass. Especially since the 4G Sub is marketed as double the bass of a 3G or something along those lines.
Lots complaining of similar issues over on Reddit, would appreciate somebody from SONOS providing a definitive response on this issue
Having the exact same issue. I no longer have any bass in my music (I use Andrea Boccelli Con Te Partiro in Dolby Atmos as a baseline - on arc + sub gen 3 it sounded incredible. Now with Arc Ultra it sounds awful. No bass. I think I might return the ultra and stick with the arc.
I am sure what is happening here and if the True Play has gotten new algorithms or a complete makeover or what but when I replaced the Arc with an Arc ultra I had to set up my entire Sonos system again. I am running a stereo pair of old Play1s in the bedroom with a Sub mini as an alarm clock and I can tell you that the bass is gone there, too.
Yep. Just got the arc ultra and 2 subs(gen 3) and 2 era 300's all finally connected and the bass is missing. I cranked the sub level to +10 just so I could feel it. Ran trueplay and it's worse. It feels like just the ultra is playing. Even with the bass level cranked up it just sounds thin. Definitely doesn't have that thump that it did before with the original arc
Thanks for the warning. Was about to replace my Arc with the Ultra.
Oof, I’m going to check the reddit on this, too.
I have ArcE300pairSub3, was going to try out the ArcUlt. as it’s easily returnable at BestBuy, and if bought from Sonos.com (after returning the BB purchase) one can get a 15% off discount.
I’m going to pass for now, lol. Sonos and software, never a consistent relationship, lol.
What is the thread, discussing issues of overall sonic integrity with ArcUl. and legacy Sonos speakers? Tried r/sonos - but didn’t see any themes of Sub3s not working well with ArcUl.
I am also facing the same issue. The bass from the subwoofer is very fibble!
I’m waiting for Sonos to confirm this issue, as it’s clearly a problem. Some people say using Quick Tune helps, while others suggest resetting all the speakers. I tried Quick Tune, but I still sounds like a $150 2.1 set up.
I need to do a factory reset on all the speakers, but that a lot of work
Bass response in a room is very location sensitive. As a test, try moving ARC and/or SUB a few inches.
In my college apartment I found a “peak” where bass was accentuated. I placed a chair on this peak. It was a favorite of males because bass seemed to explode from inside your body. If I moved the chair a few inches the bass was tame. There are also “nulls” were bass will be minimized. If a speaker or listener is located at a null, there might not be much bass.
It does seem that the Ultra does tend to have (or produce) less bass when bonded with subs, especially after TruePlay has been used, compared to possibly an Arc with same subs. It’s not breaking or no bass, but it just seems slightly (?) less bass overall..
anyone else having this possible bug (?), if so you should contact Sonos support and report it directly…
@Marco.B @Corry P any thoughts?
Same here...I came form a playbar with sub gen2, 2x sonos one to an arc ultra, sub gen 4 with 2x era300 and i thought...Where is the bass sound!!!? Are one, two or three component broken?? Do I have to return for repair….
I have an ultra (before arc) and sub gen 3, bass seems fine but not gave it a good work out yet, though I haven't attempted Trueplay as this seems to be where people are noticing the issue once done.
Sonos really need to issue some update on here.
I want to trueplay my new ultra, but this potential issue is holding me back!

Why wait? If you don’t like the sound with Trueplay, simply disable it, or reconfigure the room and the previous Trueplay setting will be removed.

Yeah, but i’ve seen some posts that to get the bass back they have had to reset their speakers. Im happy to wait a while to see if Sonos release a fix.
Maybe Peter Pee will give us a before / after TruePlay frequency test. Then we can visually see what’s going on.
Maybe someone in this community could do the same.
Maybe Sonos could do the same.
Now it looks like Sonos only tested arc ultra with sub gen4. I have gen 3 sub and with arc ultra it sounds worse than beam. At this point i am going to return ultra and wait till all the major issues are fixed.
I have a feeling there is either a bug with the Ultra and subs….. I actually don’t know if TruePlay is really making that much of a difference, besides allowing the bug to be more noticeable after the Ultra has been tuned.
OR, the built in Sound Motion sub on the Ultra is just holding onto to much of the bass from the LFE channel, and the crossover is set incorrectly when paired with some or all subs… the Arc and Beam seem to pass all the bass to the sub woofer once once is paired, the Ultra doesn’t seem to be doing that, as you can hear the bass still coming out of the sound motion sub in the middle of the Ultra, even when it’s paired with all or specific solo sub, and dual sub combinations.
again, anyone from Sonos want to acknowledge a possible bug with the Ultra? And if so, how should we report it or provide you more data around the possible bug?
@Corry P @Marco.B
Yes! This! This is exactly what I was thinking. I can hear the ultra handling sounds that would have been handled by the subs with the arc and it just sounds flimsy! I figured it has something to do with the sound motion woofers. All I know is, I want my bass back!
