My new arc ultra has anvannoying problem that did not occur on the sonos amp it replaced: whenever the tv switches audio format (say, from dd 2.0 to dd 5.1) the soundbar goes silent. Occurs 80% of the times more frequent on apple tv) and makes the whole experience a nightmare.

My tv is correctly set up to passthrough audio. Only workaround seems to force audio to pcm, which is of course not a solution. My tv is a sony bravia a8g, an older (but great) model with no earc.

Is there any hope? Went through troubleshooting with customer service  but no luck so far.

The best that will give is simple dd5.1. Why would you want that?

I should have some time over the Xmas period to try to speak to a L2 support and see if we can collectively get the to pay proper attention to the problem

Thanks for your feedback and efforts to date to push the issue with Sonos. As I’ve said before all I did was unplug an ARC and plug in an ARC ULTRA and that’s when the problems started. Sonos need to accept there is a problem with the ARC Ultra

I'm aware of that :-)

It's mostly an interim solution to get something better than pcm stereo without having usability issues. Of couse a fix would be better!

Good morning. So sold one of my Arcs and got the Arc Ultra it was working fine but now for the last week the TV and Arc Ultra will not work together.  I have trie da new cable no change, I have not changed any Sony TV settings, it just tells me the TV cannot find audio system. I am narrowing down to either a bad Arc Ultra or my HDMI earc connection on TV went bad, which I will test with maybe another device later. I bought the Arc Ultra at Best Buy so I am taking it back and getting a new one and se eif that solves the issue. If not then I may return the Ultra and go back to the Arc.

I upgraded my Playbar to Arc Ultra and have the same issues. Whenever I pause/resume a DD5.1 stream the sound doesn't come back. Often when I pause/resume again the audio returns.

I have an old Sony TV with only hdmi-arc. Changed the hdmi cable but no improvement. Since the setup worked perfect with the playbar I ordered the hdmi-optical converter from Sonos and put that between the TV and Arc, no change.

After this test it seems quite clear to me that it is a bug in the Arc Ultra hdmi implementation. The tv with optical output worked fine with the playbar but no longer with new Arc ultra.

I don't understand why not everybody has this issue if it even doesn't work with an optical interface.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. So it seems that not even the optical adapter is enougg to solve the issues. The adapter sonos sent me should arrive tomorrow, I'll also test that on my Sony tv and report back. But yes, it's an obvious bug and should be fixed.

I was on with support for about 15 minutes this morning. It's not the cable. I'm going to pick up a new arc and a new arc Ultra, the strange thing is the ultra was working for about 3 weeks and now it's not working with the TV. I can actually get it to work but then the Sony clicks back to TV speakers. It's dropping the signal. We tried another cable that wasn't the answer. So what I'm going to do is I sold my old Arc. I'm going to hook up the ultra. If it doesn't work, I'm going to hook up the regular Arc and see if this solves problem is does I'll take the ultra back and that's it. I'm not going to go back and forth

@TpaTurk this seems a different problem from the one discussed here. For me (and I think others too) the Tv remains connected to the soundbar, but the soundbar stops emitting sounds (and even the sonos app stops detecting input). This typically happens when the sound mode goes from stereo pcm to dolby 5.1, usually with an external source (appletv or sky box).

Well nothing has changed but I just tried an Arc and  new Ultra I think it is an issue with the actual HDMI earc output/input of the TV. It may have a short, it actually sees the ARC and Ultra bit the  goes back to TV speakers about 5-15 secs. Also Sonos app cannot complete setup

Optical adapter arrived today. It doesn't solve the issue so if you were planning to buy one I'd suggest to hold off. At this point the issue seems mostly unrelated to hdmi, and more to do with the way our sony tv passthrough audio to external receivers.

I just need my Sonos sound bar to work again. As long as that works I am good

Are you sure ? I have the same problem and for me it is clearly related to Arc Ultra as the optical interface worked fine with the Playbar.

The problem is 100% with the Ultra and old-ish sony bravia tvs. No matter whether hdmi or optical connection is used, the Ultra will lose sound when switching enough timed from stereo to surround mode.

Well I don't know about that. My old Sonos Arc worked fine for years. The ultra worked fine for 3 weeks. Then all the sudden I ran into this issue. I actually returned the ultra and bought a new Ultra and a new regular Arc and had the same problem with both. Right now I'm thinking month it could be my TV Arc output input went bad.. I'm ordered a Sonos optical adapter. See if it works but my ultra did work for weeks before all this.

@TpaTurk I believe your problem is completely different from the one discussed in this forum. You get no sound at all (if I understand correctly). The problem discussed here has to do with sound generally working, but sometimes stopping when audio input switches from stereo to dolby. If this is not what you are experiencing, I'd suggest to maybe start a new topic , otherwise this can get confusing.
