Hi,
Does anyone know if I can continue to dual wield the Sub2 with the Arc Ultra if I own a Sub3?
Hi,

Yes, you should be able to, without issue.
Yes, you should be able to, without issue.
Are you sure? Is there any information from Sonos about this?
Why did you ask the question, if you were to doubt the response?
I would start with this response. Although the entire thread is mostly useful.

Sorry, I do not doubt your answer. It was more meant to ask if you have already heard anything official from Sonos.
Here is the SONOS chat for reference:
(21.10.2024, 09:44:14): OK, just to understand again, once a sub 3 or 4 is available, can I use a sub 1 or 2 in dual mode in conjunction with an arc ultra?
SUPPORT (21.10.2024, 09:49:35): Yes, you can connect two Subs (Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3) together as long as at least one is Gen 3.
(21.10.2024, 09:50:11): OK, thank you for the information.
(21.10.2024, 09:50:51): On the support page, it is somewhat contradictory.
(21.10.2024, 09:51:59): It says: Arc Ultra: Compatible with two Sub 4s, Sub (Gen 3)s or one of each.
SUPPORT (21.10.2024, 09:55:40): Yes, I also saw that. The condition is that it needs to be a Gen 3 Sub.
(21.10.2024, 09:56:14): OK, not either 3 or (and) 4?
SUPPORT (21.10.2024, 09:59:17): A minimum of Gen 3 is required.
On my PC
Hi
So if I understand this correctly here is what is supported and not supported as far as sub configurations with the Arc Ultra.
Supported:
Gen 1
Gen 2
Gen 3
Gen 4
Gen 3 + Gen 3
Gen 4 + Gen 3
Gen 4 + Gen 4
Not supported:
Gen 1 + Gen 1
Gen 2 + Gen 1
Gen 2 + Gen 2
Gen 3 + Gen 1
Gen 3 + Gen 2
Gen 4 + Gen 1
Gen 4 + Gen 2
I’m rather uncertain about the underlined cases, but that’s the way I’m interpreting the conversation between
Correct.
Though, my documentation has caveats for the Sub Gen1 and Sub Gen2 - having one of these connected may be a performance limiter in future system configurations (their radios differ from Gen3/4’s and use more of the host’s resources as a result). Any such limitations will be announced when they become a factor for a new product experience being introduced.
Note that Gen 1 + Gen 1, Gen 2 + Gen 1 and Gen 2 + Gen 2 have never been Dual Sub supported configurations, so are nothing new.
Sub Mini is supported, but not in Dual Sub configuration.
I hope this helps.
So dual set up Gen 3 + Gen 2 Sub would not work with Arc Ultra.

Everyone says something different.

Hi
Apologies for the confusion! I have found your earlier support case and have left feedback - you were given incorrect information.
To be clear, for a Dual Sub configuration with Arc Ultra, both Subs must be Gen 3 or Gen 4.
Any version of Sub will work with Arc Ultra on it’s own, but Gen 1 and Gen 2 Subs connected to an Arc Ultra may limit it’s future abilities.
I hope this helps.

Thank you SONOS for saving me $1000. I will be returning my ARC Ultra tomorrow and unloading the remainder of my SONOS equipment on Marketplace. I refuse to support a company that plans obsolescence for profit. I’m sure your shareholders are going to be very happy in the coming months as the downward spiral continues.
I got my gen 4 sub along with arc ultra today, I was super excited to add them along with my era 300s and sub gen 1.
I was led to believe that any arc system could use two subs as long as at least one of them is gen 3 (so I figured gen 1 and 4 would work together fine). Alas this is not the case and it seems like the gen 1/2 subs are being phased out at least in combination with the arc ultra :(
