My tv sits on top of a tv cabinet. I placed the Arc sounbar about an inch in front of it but still on the tv cabinet top so it’s maybe an inch below due to the tv stand - not 4 inches. What will that affect? What is the purpose of the 4 inch rule?

The Arc has speakers pointing up. If it is placed directly under the TV, the TV might be in the way of the sound. That’s why the four inch rule is in place. If the Arc is placed in front of the TV the upfiring speakers are unrestricted, so you’re in the clear.
