Hi All,

I just found the following closed topic where 2 Sonos users report DTS support using the Sony UBP-X800M2.

It seems that the 2 users have working DTS to dd5.1 when connecting to the same generation Sony TV’s.

It would be great if we could find some more users with experience with the Sony UBP-X800M2.

For some users it would be a dream come true if there was a 4k HDR player that can give us surround sounds on our Sonos home theatre setups.

Xbox and PS5 do support on the fly conversion but the noise the drives make when playing UHD is not acceptable for a lot of users. → so lets skip suggesting those in this topic.

I've bought a Sony UBP-X800M2 a couple of days ago and I've been unable to get DTS from my discs working on my setup (LG C9 + Beam + 2×Play:1s). I've followed the tips suggested in the thread you share without any luck.

 

When I got sound with a DTS track, the Sonos app just says it is PCM 2.0 and the issue seems to be that my LG C9 is not transcoding the sound. Somewhere I read about a tip that requires unplugging the TV for a few seconds after setup, but that doesn't seem to change anything in my case.

 

I'll be trying further over the weekend and I'll be sharing my findings here.

The Sony UBP-X800M2 can convert DTS to PCM, but because the Beam doesn’t support multichannel LPCM audio, you will only get stereo PCM to play out of your Beam. If you had the Sonos Arc and a TV equipped with HDMI eARC, you could get multichannel PCM 5.1 or 7.1 from your DTS-encoded discs.

I know that everything would be much easier with an Arc with multichannel LPCM support. Unfortunately, upgrading to an Arc is not a possibility for me right now.

The thing is some users have claimed to get DD 5.1 on their Beams using the x800m2, probably due to some TV models being able to transcode the audio signal from the blu ray player and to send it back to the Beam as a Dolby track. In the thread linked above there are some examples.

Sorry, I can’t share any news with regard to the Sonos Beam.  But I have no problems viewing and listening to DTS encoded Blu-Ray discs with the Sonos Arc (w/ 2 Ones and a Sub), Sony A8H and the Sony UBP-X800M2. All of my firmware is current for each device. For anyone not familiar with the UBP-X800M2, it’s one glaring drawback is you have to manually select Dolby Vision in the player menu before starting a disc with Dolby Vision because it will not automatically enable that function when the disc with is loaded. Yeesh.
