Hi,

is there any possibility of how to test Dolby Atmos without TV? I have Samsung TV (2018) with Arc only and cannot play Dobly Atmos. However, I would really like to test the Dolby Atmos to hear the difference.

Is there some service (Tidal perhaps) or some sound file or some other way of how to play some Dolby Atmos right from the Sonos S2 app (without TV)? Or must it be played from TV via HDM eARC?

Thanks,

Jakub

Unfortunately this is not possible. You could try to download a Dolby Atmos trailer onto a flash drive and plug it into your TV’s USB drive and play it, but more than likely it still won’t work.

If you want to experience Dolby Atmos audio from your Arc with an older TV, currently the best and least expensive option is to add the HDFury Arcana device. It’s $199 but worth every penny.

The audio has to come in through the HDMI connection on the Sonos Arc.  There isn’t a way to stream directly to the Arc.  However, you should be able to get dobly atmos through your TV.  Dolby atmos content is data that comes across through two different codecs.  TrueHD is the lossless version, and that requires an eARC connection.  Dolby Digital plus is lossy and can be sent over ARC.  Several streaming services have DD+ atmos content, including Disney +, Amazon, Netflix, Tidal, etc.  You may have to pay for an upgraded service to get atmos content.  Most of these services should have atmos available through your TV smart apps, or you could use a streaming box.

The alternative is to get an HDFury Arcana, which is a device that will allow you to connect a source and have the audio sent directly to Sonos Arc, bypassing any TV processing.  That is eARC, so you can get TrueHD Atmos audio without having an eARC capable TV.

Actually, that will work if the audio is in DD+.  Many of the trailers are TrueHD, which will not work.

The suggestion above by Melvimbe is probably the best option ...and attach a player device to the Arcana, like Nvidea Shield or Amazon/Apple 4K devices etc.

Hello all,

thanks a lot for your replies. Yes, I know Arcana and want to buy it. That’s one OF the reasons I’d like to try it before I buy it.

I had no luck with dolby atmost even with DD+. I haven’t found any way of how to play it.

Thanks a lot for you suggestions.

Merry Christmas!
