Hi Community!

I bought a house with pre-wired, semi-surround speakers in the walls.  I was thinking of connecting the wired speakers to a Sonos Port and adding a Sonos Arc but am not sure I can ‘synchronize’ them when watching TV or playing music. I would like to create the same experience as using the Arc + 2 ones this way.  Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how would I set it up?

Thanks!

If your wired speakers are passive speakers, you need to connect them to a Sonos Amp rather than a Port.

Where are your wired speakers located in the room? Can they be used as rear surround speakers for the Arc?

Yes, you are right. It will require an amp, not Arc.  I do have an amplifier on them now but suspect that will further complicate things.

Yes, the speakers are exactly where you’d want them for rear surround.

Your best option is replacing your old amp with a Sonos Amp so you can connect your in-wall speakers to the Arc and use them as surround speakers when watching movies and listening to music.

Thanks but that does not answer the larger question around synchronizing the amp to a Arc connected to the TV using HDMI.

The Arc connects directly to the TV through HDMI ARC/eARC. The Amp powering the in-wall speakers connects wirelessly to the Arc as surround speakers to create a 5.0.2 home theater setup. Audio from the TV and streaming music will be “synchronized” playing through both the Arc and speakers connected to the Amp.

Thanks Guitar Hero. Not sure I understand how to make them sync but given your response, it sounds like they will. Will figure it out one they arrive!

I think the details is in this other thread.
