Watching the new series of Dark Materials on BBC iPlayer in UHD this evening through the iPlayer app on my LG Nano TV. I'm definitely getting really good surround sound through the rear speakers connected to my Arc, but the system says Stereo PCM 2.0. I am confused!! Any ideas?
I notice it with some free to air movies. I suspect it's got dolby pro logic in it.
Thanks for the reply Silverthorn.
So even though it says the Audio In is Stereo PCM 2.0, the Arc is actually receiving, decoding and outputting surround sound info. I was expecting to see a reference to 5.1 in the Audio In description.
Not complaining though as the sound was excellent!
It is ‘matrixed’ (essentially fake) surround sound. You really are receiving stereo, so not sure there is any info to decode, but the Arc is doing its best job to make it sound like surround.
This is strange...
The Dolby MP Matrix was the professional system that encoded 4 channels of film sound into 2. This track used by the Dolby Stereo theater system on a 35mm optical stereo print and decoded back to the original 4.0 Surround.
Although Dolby Surround was introduced as an analog format, all Dolby Digital decoders incorporate a digitally implemented Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoder for digital stereo signals that carry matrix-encoded Dolby Surround.
