Hello, I've been trying to watch Blu Rays on my PS4 Pro and it's been driving me nuts that every Blu Ray with DTS tracks transmit as Stereo PCM.

My System: Sonos Beam (1st Gen), Sub (Gen 2), two Sonos One (1st Gen), PS4 Pro, LG C1

I recently bought an LG C1, and annoyingly the TV doesn't decode DTS Audio, so I understand why I can't get DTS Audio; however, Stereo PCM makes Blu Rays a worse option than streaming. I have my PS4 Pro set to HDMI audio, and Bitrestream (Dolby). I have tried the LPCM option, Bitstream (Dolby), and Bitstream (DTS); none of them fix the issue. I've also clicked the start button within a Blu Ray and changed the Audio Format to Bitstream.

I have my C1 set to HDMi(Arc) for Sound Out, eARC enabled, Digital Sound Out to Auto, and HDMI Input to Bitstream. Ice tried Sound Out to PCM/Passthrough with no success. .

Am I just stuck with Stereo PCM or am I missing a step? Thanks for reading!

TLDR: PS4 Pro Blu Rays decode as Stereo PCM on LG C1

I think that the only thing you can perhaps do, when your TV will not pass-through the DTS codec and you have no alternative surround-sound codec on disc, like Dolby Digital 5.1 etc; is to maybe bypass the TV with an audio extractor that supports DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1, so that the TV plays no roll in the audio playback. You may find such extractors/splitters by searching Amazon or elsewhere online, some will even support HDMI-ARC connections and support HDMI-CEC, but they are usually more expensive,  two such examples are the Feintech VAX04101A, or the HDFury Arcana, but you are likely to find much cheaper options if you don’t mind using an optical connection to your Beam (gen1).

Thank you for that detailed response. That was my method of last resort, but didn't know if I was missing something.

Looking at rtings.com for pass-through of that codec on the C1 TV, it looks like DTS is not supported. So I don’t think you’re missing anything in this case, that’s as far as I can ascertain. See this…

Thank you for your reply. I saw that as well, such a weird omission by LG. Very frustrating.

Rather than getting an Arcana that will only result in lossy DTS Digital Surround audio from DTS-encoded Blu-ray discs, consider upgrading your Beam Gen 1 to a Gen 2. You should be able to set your PS4 to convert DTS to PCM which would result in lossless multichannel PCM audio to play out of the Beam Gen 2 which sounds just as good as DTS-HD Master Audio. The Gen 2 will also allow you to get lossless Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos audio from Blu-ray discs which sounds much more impressive than anything you stream.

Was actually planning on upgrading to Sonos Arc once tax season starts. Once I do that I'll move the Beam Gen 1 to the bedroom. Is setting the PS4 to Bitstream (DTS) how it'll convert the audio to PCM?

I believe Audio Format (Priority) should be set to Linear PCM. Then as the film is playing, tap the Options button on the controller and set Audio Format to Linear PCM too.

If this doesn’t work, set the former setting to Bitstream (DTS) and the latter setting to Linear PCM.

@GuitarSuperstar So the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Beam is not only the ability to play Atmos?

I think I tried that combination before, and if I recall it didn't work. I'll try that again later today. I don't think Be Gen 1 decodes LPCM either because it isn't eARC.

Correct. Because Beam Gen 2 is eARC it decodes more audio formats.

Correct. Those PS4 settings are when you upgrade to the Arc or Beam (Gen 2).
