Seven months after purchasing a Sonos ARC and two Symphonisk rear speakers, I was very annoyed by the impossibility of easily activating or deactivating the rear speakers as needed.

We're not going to lie to each other, but :

  • Touch the gear icon
  • Go to System
  • Choose Sonos Arc group
  • Then Audio Surround
  • Toggle On or Off Surrounds option

is not really what i call ergonomic.

But with the iOS Soro application, what was very painful on a daily use, now becomes super simple.

Thanks to the integration of these functions in iOs Shortcuts app, I can finally activate or deactivate my rear speakers with a simple tap when watching a movie or listening music .

I just think it’s a shame that it is an external developer who offers this solution when Sonos should have already allowed it.

What does the Soro app do to any trueplay tuning in place?

No option for enable or disabled Trueplay settings, sorry.

If it was 7 months until you got “annoyed” it surely isn’t that bad? How often do you actually want to toggle them on/off?

Personally, I use them about 99% of the time, for both music and HT watching/listening.

Sorry, English is not my mother language.

Annoying is may be not too strong. In French it’s “hyper chiant”.

Personally, I use them 5 or 6 time par day.

Great that you’ve found a solution? Can you explain why you would want to turn off the surrounds?

Simply when i’m playing music in Stereo PCM 2.0 on my Sonos Arc, i don’t want it was upmix with a false surround effect.

Honestly, I think Sonos should offer a Direct mode, as so many home theater specialists have been doing for a long time.

If you set the rear speakers to full, you get double stereo with non-TV sources. I use this all the time.

And me. And with a wider sound stage from the surrounds than from my Playbase. It just takes a while to get used to the sound coming from behind rather than in front of you!

And precisely, I don’t want that.

I want Stereo just on my Sonos Arc, not in my rear speakers

So you’re unable to go into the settings, and turn off the surrounds in this use case?

Read the first post, please.
And imagine doing that 5 or 6 time per day ;)

Must admit that getting to sound settings for a room is a button press bonanza.  A lot easier on the Windows app.  I’d like to see an Eq icon on the now playing screen under the Artist and song title?
