Hi @Marshall W.
Welcome to the Sonos community and thanks for reaching out to us. Allow me to share some information to help you out.
I would like to share with you that even if the Sonos One is an Airplay 2 and Voice-enabled Sonos device, It is not part of the Sonos home theater family. We do not recommend using it as an audio output device from your Airplay 2 capable TV as the audio may not meet your expectations. Our Sonos Home theater products use HDMI or Optical cable connection to connect to a TV for better audio quality output and stable connection. However, we can always reach out to other members of the community who may have tried this type of set up and check what are their recommendations and feedback.
Let us try to reach out to other members of the community. Here in the community, anyone can lend a hand. We all learn from one another.
Thanks,
Hi,
thanks for your reply. As the Sonos ones were a gift from my work, i wasn’t planning on spending that much money on a Sonos beam/arc. I have however seen people selling the Sonos Play:5. Would this be able to connect to a tv through its aux input port and connect to the Sonos ones?
@Marshall W : that reply from Sonos rather suggests “we want you to buy a Beam or Arc” to me.
i don’t know if you can use the Ones as you suggest but I’m sure someone will confirm that soon. If you are content with “just” stereo rather than Dolby Digital 5.0 or Atmos - and it will work - then go for it!
Would love to hear if it worked out. I’m also looking at a tv with Airplay 2 build in (Samsung frame) and have two One’s (newest) I would like to use it with. Rather not want to buy a arc or anything else..
TV’s generally can receive Airplay 2 not transmit it.
So your iPhone would see the Sonos speakers and the TV as being Airplay speakers, but the TV would not be able to play audio through the Sonos speakers.
Apple TV can transmit to Airplay speakers, but I have never seen a TV that can transmit Airplay.
I tried to run some play ones as Mac speakers for a while and it was not a great experience, lip sync is an issue and the Mac would disable Airplay if not used for a few minutes and I kept having to re-enable it.
I sold the ones and bought a Beam to use via optical instead and it works better with the Mac, but not without its quirks.
