Hello Sonos Community, my apologies if this gets asked often. I plan to purchase the Sonos Arc, a Gen 2 sub, and two Sonos One SLs for a surround sound setup. I understand the Sonos Arc supports Dolby Atmos but not DTS. Does this refer only to the surround sound function or does it mean no audio support at all for DTS and I would only hear silence when trying to watch something mastered with DTS rather than Dolby.

Let me explain further as I've had difficulty finding an answer online; I have a 4k tv with an eARC port, and a Sony 4k blu-ray player. Warner Brother's Tenet recently came out on 4k disc with DTS audio. If I were to play the disc with the setup described above and Sonos products, what will I hear? I know it won't be surround sound but will it just be silence or a basic sound minus surround sound effects?

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. 🙂

You would be hearing the 2channel audio or possibly a 5.1 fall back for a DTS X track. That varies movie by movie, checking the case can show you the fall back audio layer for the main presentation. Or the main menu for each movie you put in.  The Sony cannot convert DTS to Dolby.  I do believe the Xbox one S and above do, on the fly. Not sure about DTSX though. Just master audio tracks and below to dolby.

What you hear also depends on your TV. My old Samsung UE46D8000 and Beam kept silent when fed with DTS, but my 2019 QU65Q90 and Beam play stereo when fed with DTS.

The Sonos Arc now supports multi-channel LPCM audio. If you set your Blu-ray player’s audio settings to convert DTS to PCM, anytime you play a DTS-HD Master Audio-encoded disc like Tenet, your Arc will output lossless multi-channel LPCM which sounds just as good as DTS.

Thanks for all the help folks! Much appreciated.
