sonos incorrectly recognizes 5.1 on YTTV Multiview

I'm using ATV with YTTV and the Sonos app says sound is in DD 5.1 when watching NFL in multiview. In reading other forums, YTTV is only stereo in multiview, and it's clear this is the case when putting my ear to the surrounds. When switching to an individual game rather than Multiview, 5.1 kicks in.

So why does the Sonos app say it's 5.1 when the multiview broadcast is stereo? This makes me doubt Sonos' software recognition.

5.1 can be stereo, it’s only using 2 of the 5 channels.  The source is not necessarily the codec.

Hi @Jonnydrama32

Thanks for your post!

It seems most likely that either your ATV or your TV is re-encoding audio into Dolby Digital 5.1 when the source is stereo - it’s nothing to worry about.

I agree with @jgatie - the 5.1 you get probably only has sound in two of the channels.

I hope this helps.
