Hi!  I just recently started using the Sonos arc while I was previously using my homepods for surround sound for my AppleTV.  Now when I try to add my HomePods to the audio with my Arc it creates the very echo-y sound.  Is there any work around to add the HomePods as Surround Sound in the App?

I found a way to work around the the echo-y sound but then it limited the soundbar sound(no dolby etc) Any help would be great!  Thanks!

There is no way to use the HomePods as surround speakers with the Arc. You can only play the same audio together through all three speakers over AirPlay 2, but as you mentioned, it will not be played in any surround audio format like Dolby Digital or Dolby Atmos.

If you want to add surrounds to the Arc, consider getting a pair of Sonos One SLs instead.

  1. That’s not surround sound.  Surround sound is separate channels playing on specifically positioned speakers so as to imitate motion and ambiance.  What you had is just the same front channels playing on the Arc and HomePods and not even in sync, which as you heard, sounds like a mess.
  2. For real surround sound with the Arc, you need to purchase two Sonos Ones, Fives, or Symphonisk speakers and position them behind the viewing area.  You can also add a Sonos Sub.
