Hi everyone,

I am new to Sonos and Dolby Atmos. I have a LG CX TV which features eARC and I ma using a Roku Ultra (2020) addition to stream. My Sonos Arc is connected to HDM2 (eARC) and my Roku is connected to HDMI4.

For the TV the options for Digital Audio out are: PCM / Auto / Pass Through

For the Roku options are: Auto detect / Auto Pass through / or a bunch of specific options like PCM, Dolby Digital, etc…

Originally I had the TV setup to Auto and the Roku Auto detect. When I did this, the Sonos said everything is Dolby Atmos which it obviously is not.

When I selected pass through on both, it seemed to pick the right audio based on what it was. Also the volume was a lot lower.

My question is. Is the auto setting better? Obviously the Roku is trying to convert everything to sounds like Atmos but I am not sure it is actually correct.

What do you guys recommend?

Set the TV to Pass Through and the Roku Ultra to either Auto Passthrough or Dolby Digital Plus. If you set the Roku to Auto Detect, it will convert incoming audio to the best format supported by the Arc. This is why EVERYTHING is shown as Dolby Atmos even though it isn’t.

When streaming Dolby Atmos content on Netflix, Disney+, or VUDU on the Roku Ultra, if your settings are correct, you should see “Dolby Atmos (DD+)” after “Audio In:” when you go to Settings > System > About My System in the Sonos app and scroll down to the Arc information.

Thank you @GuitarSuperstar. You confirmed my suspicion. I am switching everything to passthrough.
