For some reason I’m only showing Stereo PCM in the Sonos App on everything except for when I play something straight from my TV.  For example, if I use the AppleTV or PS4 it is Stereo PCM.  If I just play straight from an app on my smart TV it will be 5.1.  I bought this TV in 2014 and the only streaming app it has is Netflix so haven’t been able to see if I can get Dolby Atmos out of it.

Is it possible my TV can only receive stereo sound through the HDMI ports?  Seems weird that I can get 5.1 out of the TV, but not if I use an external device.  I’m not opposed to buying a new TV to fix the problem, but I just want to be sure that the TV is actually the problem before I do that.

More than likely your TV cannot pass through 5.1 audio from external media devices. I have a TV from 2013 that has the same issue. You can either get a new TV equipped with HDMI eARC or get an HDFury Arcana eARC adapter. It will allow your external media devices to bypass your TV and send audio directly to the Arc. I use the Arcana with the Arc, Apple TV 4K, Roku Ultra, and Blu-ray player and it works great.

Thanks.  I hooked up a bunch of different devices to the TV I was having issues with and it was all Stereo PCM.  I then hooked the ARC up to a newer TV I have and everything cam out in the audio form that it should have.  Sounds like you are correct that this TV I have cannot pass 5.1 audio from external sources.
