I’m new to the community. I purchased my ark and Sonos sub last week and I am extremely pleased with it. I am using a Sony 65X 900 F Tv and an Xbox one for my 4K player. I am using the same cables I used on my older receiver system which was functioning with Atmos. I have seen online that my Sony TV had a firmware update that supports E arc or at least changed it to support it I have already contacted Sonos on this problem and Sony they are telling me the TV will do a pass-through of Atmos but only 5.1 whatever that means I figured Atmos is 7.1. Now when I use the demo in the Xbox one in Atmos it shows up on my app as it’s playing Atmos But nowhere else. Now for my new problem today I’m trying to watch a 4K HD the movie and there’s no volume I have the Xbox set on bistream out Because the 7.1 option does not work because it says that the TV is not capable of handling it and under the advanced setting I have it set on pass-through. I can only get audio through the Sonos if I put the TV on PCM which sounds horrible anyone know a way around this and what’s going on.
What 4K disc are you testing? Are you sure your TV now supports eARC?
eARC is required to play Dolby Atmos audio from Blu-ray or UHD discs. But your TV should be able to pass through Atmos audio with only HDMI ARC from some of its native streaming apps like Netflix.
Batman and one other. A quick google search shows the 65x900f now should support Atmos
I can put a blue ray in and I have sound. The tv only has 3 options for audio out pcm/ uncompressed audio and one other sumthing to do with all uncompressed audio. I have sound but only on pcm and it sounds like crap. The Xbox one is set on bitstream out

Based on my Google search, the X900F is only equipped with HDMI ARC, not eARC. This means that your TV supports lossy Dolby Atmos via Dolby Digital Plus from native apps like Netflix, but not lossless Atmos via Dolby TrueHD from Blu-rays and UHD discs.
Do you have a Netflix premium subscription where you can test Atmos content on your TV’s native Netflix app?
I was on A live chat with a representative from Sonos and he also looked online did a Google search that is for my TV and he said that I was correct the TV does support a pass-through of an Atmos signal. And I know I saw it online something about the firmware updated it. The weird thing is when I play a demo on the Xbox one that’s built-in it pops up on my Sonos app that it is playing Dolby Atmos but that’s the only time that I see it. But it’s not working now with an 4K HDR movie is kind of weird
There is a difference between lossy Dolby Atmos via Dolby Digital Plus and lossless Dolby Atmos via Dolby TrueHD. The former is a compressed version of Dolby Atmos used with streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+. The latter is an uncompressed, higher quality form of Dolby Atmos used on Blu-rays and UHD discs. Since your TV is only equipped with HDMI ARC, your TV only supports the compressed version of Atmos, not the uncompressed version. That’s why you aren’t getting Atmos audio from your Batman UHD disc. But you should be able to get Atmos from your TV’s native Netflix app as long as you have a premium subscription.
Thank you very much for your fast replies. So let me ask you is there any way around this also does that mean that I can never watch any of my 4K discs anymore. Like I said I can switch the TV to PCM but it sounds horrible for some reason. I have also tried a few different settings in the Xbox and still no sound
For 4K discs encoded with Dolby TrueHD audio, you should still be able to get Dolby Digital 5.1 audio from those discs. On your Xbox, set HDMI Audio to “Bitstream Out” and Bitstream Format to “Dolby Digital”.
Also, some UHD discs, like the Batman 4K disc, have a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track that you can select in the disc’s audio menu.
For discs encoded with a DTS-HD Master Audio track, unfortunately you are limited to stereo PCM audio because the Arc doesn’t support DTS.
Ok I will definitely try that tomorrow. Thank you very much for your help I have a case open with Sonos for a master technician to figure the problem out seems to me like you already did. I thought Matt online it had said something about a Sony update converted the regular arc connection into an E arc but I guess that’s not the case. I wonder if Sony will come out with some other update to fix this problem or I might just have to get a new TV with E arc. I will chime back in tomorrow and let you know how it goes thank you once again. Let me know if there’s anything else I can try
Also why does PCM sound so different
Also why does PCM sound so different
PCM is basically just two-channel stereo. It will never sound as good as 5.1 channel surround audio when watching movies.
One other option is to get the HDFury Arcana which allows your Xbox to bypass your TV’s ARC limitations and send the audio directly to the Sonos Arc resulting in lossless Dolby TrueHD/Atmos audio from Blu-ray and UHD discs and multichannel LPCM audio from DTS-encoded discs. This is what I use with my 8-year-old TV and it works great.

Your good lol I’ll look into that thanks a million
One last thing looking at the pictures of that from the Xbox it would go into the HDMI input and then it has two other output one would go to Sonos and then one to the TV. Would the TV still control the Sonos though and will audio still come through on all my other apps?
Yes, the TV will still control the Arc and audio will still play to the Arc from the TV and all of its native apps.
NOTE: Since the Arcana only has one HDMI input, you can only connect one external source to it unless you use an HDMI switch. I use a 3-port switch to connect my UHD player, Roku Ultra, and Apple TV 4K.
Great I only have one hdmi anyway my Xbox thanks agin
