Hi.
I have recently purchased two Sonos Ones to go with my playbase to add surround sound to the tv sound. I set them up a week ago adding them to my playbase and sub in the same room but when I set the tv sound on through the app they don’t omit any sound at all. All the tv sound comes from the playbase. When I play music it comes from all speakers. I had two play 5 in the same room (recently purchased) to try to solve this problem but that didn’t work either but the play 5’s would play music with the playbase. I’ve searched the app room settings and tried adjusting everything to no avail. I’m not new to sonos as I have the same set up downstairs with a playbar and tv sound comes from all speakers but I can’t get the same result upstairs. The surrounds aren’t doing anything except when music is playing. It’s doing my head in.

How is the tv connected to the playbase? Might there be a setting to enable surround output vai optical from the TV? The fact that when in music mode all speakers fire suggests the issue might be at the tv side of things (or a fault with the optical input?).
Hi.
The playbase is connected via the optical lead to the tv. Sound doesn’t come out of the tv as I’ve changed the settings on the telly to external speakers. Tv sound comes from every other sonos speaker in the house except these sonos ones. It was the same with the play 5s, couldn’t get them to work either but in both cases I could go downstairs where my playbar is under my second tv and sound plays from all speakers but the tv is off as sound is coming from the upstairs playbase. It’s very bizarre. The room with the playbase is the same room that has my router but can’t see why that would matter.

Hi Danc7500,
As a test, can you try playing something on your TV that should have surround audio? While playing, please submit a diagnostic report from your Sonos app, then reply here with the confirmation number. This should let us know what type of signal the PLAYBASE is receiving.
Hi Jeff. Thank you for your message. I have just submitted a diagnostic report and the no is 58272227.
Before I done this I added the sound downstairs in the living room but the telly was of as sound was from my playbase. Sound was coming from my play 1s but upstairs the Sonos Ones are silent.
Kind regards, Dan

Thanks for sending in the report. It looks like your PLAYBASE is only receiving a stereo signal from the optical cable. This would explain why the surround Sonos Ones aren't playing any audio. When grouping in other speakers in your home, they are all playing the stereo signal. Please check the settings on your TV to ensure that it's outputting a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal through the optical cable. Also, the TV source may not have surround audio. You can try a few different TV channels, usually movies are more likely to have surround audio.
