I have single-sided deafness so don’t need the full surround sound experience.  I would however like to add one single Sonos One to my ARC+Sub Gen 3 setup.  The app doesn’t seem to only let you pair surrounds as a pair.  Any way to pair just one?

No, not as part of the same ‘room’. You could set it up as a separate ‘room’ and group the two rooms for music play back. For the TV input, there would be a slight delay between the two ‘rooms’.

You can group the One with the Arc/Sub like @Airgetlam explains above, but the One will not perform like a surround speaker. It will play center channel dialogue and left and right channel effects that would change your surround sound experience.


Thanks Bruce.  So, to confirm - are you saying you can not use a One and a One SL in a stereo pair?  So if I want a Right/Left channel music experience - I must have either 2 SL’s - or 2 One’s?  :(

A One and One SL can be paired as a stereo pair.


As GuitarSuperstar says. What I am saying is you can not add a single Sonos One to a home theater ‘room’ in the Sonos software. 


I’m sorry - but now I’m confused.  I’ll describe my scenario a bit more:

This is only for listening to music in a non-tv setting.  I want L/R stereo - that’s it.  When I go through the set up it simply stops - doesn’t allow me to confirm anything.

This thread has mutated from the ‘I want to connect a single speaker to my home theater’ to a completely separate issue. 

You might be better off starting your own thread, most people will be confused by the thread title and original post, which have nothing whatsoever to do with setting up a pair of Sonos One speakers.
