Pairing playbase with sub
Can you pair the playbase with the sonos sub? And will I see a difference against the sound bar sub combo?

Yes you can. I did it with my sub but found it too bassy for tv watching. I find the bass on the play Base to be perfect. For music the sub and a pair of play 1s is hard to beat.

You'll be pleased. The Sub is an excellent addition.
All very subjective and therefore will vary from one listener to the next. Even for people that like the added value, the question of value received versus price paid is the next subjective assessment that each person has to make for themselves.
