Currently watching WW1984 on my 2021 Samsung Q7 led with sonos arc. I was trying to figure out if the audio output is displaying Dolby atmos but when I pull up what I’m watching on the Sonos app it does not show up and it has been doing this for quite some time.

Hi @Jbrow.

Thanks for reaching out, let me see what I can do to help you.

Is this happening regardless of the content your playing on the TV?

How’s the Arc connected on the TV and what cable is in use (HDMI ARC or eARC)?

What device you’re using as a Sonos controller? Have you tried using a different controller if there’s available?

Kindly replicate the issue, then submit a diagnostic report through the Sonos app shortly while it is happening, and reply with the confirmation number. I'd start by reviewing your system and go from there, it will help in identifying what's possibly causing the issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

I don't recall the Sonos app ever being capable of displaying what is being watched and can't imagine how it could??

Hi there,

to your first question: yes it appears whatever I watch the “now playing” does not show what I am watching in real time. However, I did test music through Alexa and it appears to show what’s playing...

second question: it is plugged into an eArc from the Samsung tv to the Sonos Arc

im using my iPhone as the controller. What other electronics can I use to test this?

Diagnostic number: 263100607 I was watching home alone 4 on Disney+ And it did not display the movie I was watching.

@John B i was under the impression that is does and more specifically WW1984 was not displaying in Dolby Atmos (through HBO Max) even though I have the proper set up. I’ve seen others screenshots show what it is playing and showing the Dolby atmos icon.. next to the movie.

Hi @Jbrow.

Thanks for your response.

I agree with @John Bthe app will not display what you are watching. I guess I’m under the impression that you are looking for the specific audio signal you are getting from the Arc when watching TV.  If Arc is receiving an Atmos signal, we will display that within the Sonos App on both the "Now Playing" screen, and within the settings portion of our app.

Settings > System > About my System > Sonos System Info > Audio In

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

@Annazel S ok I understand. However when I watched Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max that supports Dolby atoms. the hdmi is plugged into an eArc and all the setting are turned on to get Dolby atmosI still am only getting Dolby 5.1 can you help me get atmos while watching WW1984.

Sonos does show if it’s receiving a Dolby Armos signal (other sound formats are only shown through System-About my system). It also shows what music it is playing (from Spotify for example). It doe not show what you are viewing - possible because this information isn’t relayed via the HDMI-ARC or eARC connection.

@Jbrow If you are using the native HBO Max app on your TV, Dolby Atmos audio isn’t currently supported on HBO Max on Samsung TVs: https://help.hbomax.com/Answer/Detail/2957

@GuitarSuperstar this is exactly the information I was seeking! Kind of dumb the native app won’t support Atmos; so the movie also probably doesn’t display in 4K, I’m assuming?

@Jbrow According to the HBO Max website, it appears that the app on your TV doesn’t support 4K video either.

Keep in mind, this is the first time HBO Max has ever streamed any film in Dolby Atmos. So they are still new to the game. Give them some time to expand and improve their Atmos offerings.
