New Kogan TV remote not working with Sonos Playbar

I recently purchased a Kogan 65”4K UHD LED smart Android TV (Series 9, XU9210).

I managed to connect the remote to the Sonos playbar, only when the TV is off.

When I turn the TV on the remote control volume up and down only works on the TV speaker not the Sonos Playbar.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

It all worked fine previously with a Samsung TV.

Is this Kogan device an IR remote, or does it only operate on RF?

In general, an IR remote just needs to be added through the Sonos software, in the ‘room’ settings. If it is RF, you need to figure out how to force it over to IR.

i believe it is infrared. I think I’ve set it up correctly but still not working.

I’d be willing to bet it is RF, or even Bluetooth based, since your description of the TV was ‘smart Android TV’. I’d double check the manual to check to see that it really is set up for IR. 

Once it is emitting IR, the normal programming sequence in the controller should work, assuming the  IR receiver hasn’t been blocked on your PLAYBAR.
