Good morning.

Since the new ATV4K is only shipping next week, I’m  hoping someone will be able to answer this definitively before purchase.

Many early adopters of the Arc and owners of recent Sony smart TVs know of the problems re sound that were finally solved after a year by Sony. Very frustrating.

I’ve been reading of problems re Atmos, eArc, etc on older ATVs but nothing seems definitive. Lots of ideas sloshing around.

Im looking for a seemless experience 🙂 after the Sony nonsense.

Basically, plug and play and get the same sound I’m getting now with the smart TV and Arc.

Thank you.

As long as your TV is equipped with HDMI eARC, the Apple TV 4K should play Dolby Atmos audio out of your Sonos Arc from supported sources.

Thank you.

I was hoping for a ‘will play’ rather than ‘should’;)

But with the latest digital interfaces including, Sony, Apple & Sonos, I’ll take ‘should’ 🙂 thx again.

There is no change in the Apple TV’s implementation of the audio codecs it is sending. It boils down to if Sony takes that signal, processes it through the TV’s eARC circuitry properly, and sends it back out for the Sonos Arc to pick up. Neither Apple nor Sonos have any say in that issue, it’s purely up to Sony.

I’m currently using an HD Fury Arcana to get Dolby Atmos from Apple TV 4K (Gen 1) to Sonos Arc. It would be nice if Apple opened up this new feature beyond its HomePod:

Use HDMI ARC or eARC with your Apple TV 4K (2nd generation)
