All of my Sonos Speakers are cool to the touch except my Sonos Beam. I was repositioning the Beam when I noticed that underneath the beam (mid left side when facing the speaker) was a bit warm. Thought maybe because I had used it recently. I checked later and the next day it still warm. I checked my Play One's and sub and they were all cool.

I left the Beam idle for a whole day and it was still warm. That maybe it was Alexa Waiting for a command, Turned off the mic and removed Alexa via the app.

Beam still remains warm.

Is this normal, is this happening to everyone else?

I've had my system for less than 2 weeks and want to make sure all is fine.
No one?

Anybody willing to just touch the bottom side of their beam to see if its warm while idle. I need to know if it's normal or if If I should exchange it.
I don't know about the bottom -- I can't be bothered to disturb mine -- but the Beam is a little warm on the top. More to the left side maybe.

Bear in mind that there's a computer in there, and Sonos rate the idle consumption as "up to 5.5 Watts". A bit of warmth is to be expected.

Also, the One (and Play:1) get a tad warm too. Put your hand down the middle of the back, where the heatsink is located, and you'll feel it. Sub is much bigger, and also consumes rather less when idle, so you'd not be able to detect it that easily on the outer casing.
I can't say that I've checked (not at home currently) but I don't recall ever feeling any heat off the unit. Amps do create heat though, but the Beam has 5 amplifers in it, so I would not expect there to be heat in only one spot.

If it were me, I would contact Sonos about it. Probably a phone call.
IMO it's normal. The bulk of the electronics are on the left back side. On the right back is the rear bass driver.
If it's not, then you have the one year warranty to rely on.

I had wondered why the Sub is so cool all the time, idle or playing, compared to my play 1 units/Connect/Connect Amp; thank you for that insight. I have been able to permanently leave a acoustically transparent to low frequencies cloth cover on mine to keep the dust away from the wide open to dust ports because of this welcome trait.

Interesting. My Beam is warm to the left side but the bottom not the top.

True, definitely agree there is a computer and some heat is expected but computers usually run idle when not in use thus reducing heat. Thanks for the link, I will check that out.

This is what actually gave me cause for concern. Both of my One's are completely cool when not in use. The Sub is also but now I understand why. Thank you for that as well.

When I come home from work, all my speakers have been sitting idle all day. The only speaker I detect any heat from is the Beam. I just don't know how much heat should be expected. Guess I'll need to call tech support of check to see if a local Best Buy has one plugged in.

yeah, Think I'll do this when I get home. I'm not sure about this but I did not think the amplifiers would build much or any heat while not in use.

Will contact Tech support later.

Well I can see how that would make plenty sense.
I just lifted my Beam. It's warm on the left underside, but I wouldn't say it's inconsistent with ~5W of idle dissipation.

If you can recall auto bulbs in the days before LEDs, a 6W bulb could get pretty hot to handle.
I should have mentioned as well, that I checked mine as well. Warm on the left underside. Not really noticable if you aren't looking for it, but it's has the metal bracket underneath mine, which is probably helping to spread the heat a bit more.

I wouldn't worry....and I should not have given you cause for worry to being with.
Thanks ratty and melvimbe!

I really appreciate it. Ended up having s really long day and never got around to calling tech support.

It's good to know its behaving normally which i expected cir the most part but with ir being new I wanted to be sure.

Thanks again guys.
