We have had the playbar for a few years. We wanted more surround sound so we purchased the Move hoping they would group together.

I've searched and watched numerous videos thinking I was missing something. I thought the set up would be a "no brainer" ...easy, but after trying for over 3 hrs, I'm frustrated thinking we wasted money on this speaker hoping it would do something it's not capable of.

On the Sonos app both speakers are listed when I click on -group. I get a message that I need 2 or more rooms???? They are both on the same network.  Playbar is connected to TV. We use a Firestick.

Any suggestions, please help.

To group speakers in the Sonos app, follow the instructions in this article:

NOTE: If you group the Move to the Playbar while playing TV audio, you will experience a slight audio delay from the Move. Music audio will be in sync though.

If you want a true surround sound setup with the Playbar, consider getting two One SLs and add them as surrounds. You should also consider adding a Sub to complete the 5.1 system.

If you Group the MOVE’s with PLAYBAR while watching a movie, the MOVE’s will be slightly delayed. While the adjustment may impact the video lip sync, you might be able achieve better time alignment with the MOVE’s by adjusting PLAYBAR.s TV Dialog Sync. This will not be true surround sound, but you might prefer this arrangement while watching movies.

Thank you, for your response.

I had just about given up and not sure what I did and all of a sudden it worked…yippee!!
hopefully it stays “paired” I don’t know what I did. But happy now!

Tootsie2018,

I’m being pedantic, but in SONOS lingo, each player is a ‘Room’ in the SONOS controllers. Rooms can be ‘Grouped’ to play the same music in time alignment.  Two identical speakers, such as MOVE can be ‘Paired’ (left/right). This pair becomes a Room.

If you add a SUB, it will become part of a Room. If you build a surround system the sound bar, surrounds, and (optional) SUB will become a Room.

Just an addition. There’s another piece of Sonos lingo: bonding. A defined set of speakers can be bonded as a surround set.

You can group the Move with the Playbar, to achieve an extra sound source. But this will not result in real surround sound. You need speakers that can be bonded in a surround set up for that. The Move cannot be bonded in a surround set up. Two Five’s or One (SL)’s can.
