Hey guys. I´ve been reading many topics about this issue, but none of them could help me get through my problem. I have a LG GX plugged to My Sonos Beam (with paired Sonos One stereo pair) via HDMI ARC port (the HDMI port 2 on TV). The first time I plugged them together it just worked, the TV told me a sound output was found and offered me to use it. It was all great, until I´ve turned the tv OFF. From that moment I had no sound at all (using HDMI ARC, with Airplay 2 it´s all OK). I´ve unplugged it all and restored tv to Factory Settings, but this time I´ve disabled the “quick start” option of the tv (as mentioned for a user in a forum). It worked the first time, then the issue came back, no sound at all. My cables are HDMI 2.1, and just to make sure, I´ve used the original one provided with the Beam. I´ve unplugged everything from the wall, waited 30s, plugged it back, still no sound. The ouput on TV is set to HDMI-ARC, on Connections Menu the options to auto detect devices, enable Simplink and Power Management are all ON. If I change the output to HDMI 2 I can see the Sonos Background image (all OK with image transmission), but can´t get it to out the sound via ARC. I´ve tried using the included hdmi to optical adapter, and plugging it in the optical tv output and switching audio output to Optical it worked right away and never had a single issue (I had to manually setup the controller). But my intention wasn´t to keep using optical, I really wanted to use the sound via HDMI-ARC. The TV is with the latest firmware, as the Sonos Beam. I´ve tried 3 different hdmi cables (my standard hdmi 2.1 cable, the provided Sonos HDMI cable and the Sony PS5 hdmi 2.1 original cable). I´m running out of options here. Does anyone have a clue about what might be happening? Thank you so much.

Hi @do1984, and welcome to the Sonos Community!

Issues like this are often the result of another HDMI device taking over communication - would it be possible to fully power off the TV, disconnect all HDMI devices from the TV (including the Beam), wait for a minute or so, and then power the TV back on, and reconnect only the Beam?

If that works and you’re getting audio through the Beam, then what I’d suggest next is to slowly start reconnecting any other HDMI devices, leaving a few minutes between each, to see if we can identify a culprit.

Let us know how you get on :)

Hi @Xander P , thank you for your reply. I´ll definitely try that once I get the time to do so. Today I´ll be working late so I´m looking forward for tomorrow. I have a set top box and a PS5 connected to the tv also. (all the 4 hdmis are with cables attached, plus the hdmi with optical adapter). Can I unplug the HDMI from the devices instead of the back of the tv? Since that tv is flushed to the wall, it´s kind of hard to access the hdmi inputs. And just a plus. Yesterday I did a factory reset on the Beam. that didn´t work either. Interesting fact, despite the sound not working, when I turn the tv OFF and press the volume buttons on the LG Controller, the Beam flashes the light like it´s recognizing the IR. When I turn the tv ON, the light on Beam doesn´t flash at all. All I get is that circle with a slash on tv.

That should be fine @do1984, as long as the TV is fully powered off, devices disconnected, and then powered back on, it shouldn’t matter too much which side you disconnect the HDMI cable from.

The difference in LED behaviour between when the TV is off/on is quite typical of CEC issues - let us know how you get on after performing that test :)

@Xander P , I´ve managed to go home for lunch and I was able to test it out. In the end, for my initial tests, there were two culprints. In the PS5 side, the HDMI Link was enabled, when I switched to the PS5 input, the sound was reverted back to TV, and I couldn´t get it back to ARC while I didn´t repeat the proccess (unplug everything, etc). With the HDMI Link disabled, PS5 didn´t “steal” the CEC instructions.

Then I´ve plugged my set top box, it worked for like 30s, then I´ve switched it off, but then the sound was gone. I´ve unplugged everything again and I was able to repeat the issue, it stole the CEC. But unlike the PS5, there is no option to disable that. So I unplugged everything again, then plugged just Beam and PS5. I was able to use PS5, TV apps, etc, all without issues (set top box unplugged). I suppose I´ll need a CEC less HDMI adapter (which is kindda difficult to get where I live). Since my lunch time is short, tomorrow I´ll make more tests. But it seems you nailed you. I can´t thank you enough for the tips. Thank you SO MUCH!

I used insulating tape in the pin 13 of the hdmi cable, blocking the CEC. It now works with my set top box too without stealing the audio output.

Glad to hear it! Sounds like it must have been a bit fiddly to block pin 13 on its own, but that should certainly resolve the issue for you.

If there’s anything else we can do to help, feel free to get back in touch :)
