I’m running an LG C9 with a Panasonic UB820 Blu-ray player, Sonos Arc + Sub gen 3 + One SL surrounds. The lack of DTS support on the Arc has been frustrating for non Dolby encoded Blu-ray discs, so I have been eagerly awaiting the multichannel PCM update.

It’s finally arrived (thanks, Sonos!) and I tried playing a DTS encoded Blu-ray and… no dice. Still stereo PCM 2.0. Has anyone running a similar set-up managed to get 5.1 PCM output from the Arc?

The C9 supports eARC and multichannel PCM, I’m using 48gbps HDMI cables that support up to 8k60Hz, all of the devices are up to date, I have the C9 set to PCM with eArc enabled, DTS output set to PCM on the UB820… I’m really at a loss here. Any ideas or suggested settings?

Did not want to start yet another thread about Sonos and DTS support, so posting here experiences with my new Sonos setup consisting of Arc Ultra soundbar, 2 x Era 300 acting as surrounds (with plans on adding Sub 4 to the setup down the road.)

I got the Arc Ultra connected with my PC , Panasonic DP-UB820 player and Epson TW6700 projector with Feintech VAX04101 HDMI eARC Pass Switch, which I got working after some self-induced cable connecting issues - should have read Feintech’s installation guides more carefully from the get go *facepalm* . But additionally I made the mistake of trusting Mr. GPT regarding the DTS support with Arc Ultra, as AI still claimed few weeks back that the Ultra ARC would support DTS HD Master Audio codec, which it evidently does not. Thanks to forum posts here I learned about the Panasonic UB820’s Digital Audio Output setting and that one can output DTS as PCM. This works as advertised and I am getting PCM 5.1 and 7.1 audio from my Blu-ray with DTS HD MA tracks.

But as many others have stated it before, I have tough time grasping why Sonos has not introduced full fledged support for all DTS codecs, especially now with their latest top of the line Soundbar, Arc Ultra. Most likely something to do with licensing, but if you are reading this Sonos, add one more customer vote for bringing full DTS support for your products!

i have a Samsung 7 series Tv and Panasonic dp-ub820.   I’ve tried everything including turning the earc off on the tv.     I’m still getting the stereo pcm on my Sonos app.  How do I check to see if your suggestion is working.  I’m struggling with the fact that on the blue ray, it’ll show Dolby Digital 5.1 while in menu mode on the Sonos app.  Then when the movie starts, it switches to Stereo PCM on the Sonos app.

For anyone curious, I managed to get this working for DTS-HD pass-through on an LG C series (9), with Arc, sub and two play 3's as surrounds (I also have a Phillips Hue sync box working as a HDMI switch) by using following settings:

• On Panasonic UB820:

- all audio set to "bitstream"

- secondary audio "off"

• On LG C Series:

- Audio set to pass-through

- eArc set to "off"

Result is Sonos outputs at DTS 5.1

It was as easy as just toggling eARC to "off" for it to kick in.

Hope this helps anyone still struggling with DTS-MD.

I couldn’t get mine to work on my Samsung 7 Series tv even with selecting the Arc off and restarting the components.  My movies start in DD 5.1 when in menu mode but switches to Stereo PCM when it starts on the Sonos app.  This is frustrating…

What Blu-ray Disc are you playing?

I’ve tried about 12 movies total,  they are all older though, so nothing that should not work.  They all have older Dolby formats or Atmos.  The Atmos works fine and as I mentioned, the 5.1 shows up on menus just not when the movie starts.

What specific Samsung TV model do you have? Choose one of the movies without Atmos and tell me what the title is.

What specific model number is the 7 series?

Pacific Rim has a Dolby Atmos track. Choose another movie without an Atmos track.

Pacific Rim has a Dolby Atmos track. Choose another movie without an Atmos track.

It’s from 2013,  and was purchased when new.  It has 5.1 and 7.1 respectively only.  This version does not have Atmos.  I’ve used others with the same result though.   Atmos tracks play just fine and Atmos shows up on the Sonos App.    Model number is UN82TU700FXZA

@Peaceofmind105 I’m assuming you meant to say you purchased the TV in 2023, not “2013” since your TV is equipped with eARC. And I’m assuming you are playing the Pacific Rim standard Blu-ray disc, not the 4K UHD disc, correct?

Correct, the BLU-ray was purchased in 2013 and is in the older formats.  TV is newer since it has the e-Arc option

Set the Blu-ray player to these settings:

  • Dolby Audio: Bitstream
  • DTS/DTS-HD: PCM
  • Secondary Audio: Off

Set the TV to these settings:

HDMI-eARC Mode: Auto

Digital Output Audio Format: Pass-Through

If this doesn’t give you “Multichannel PCM” audio, then your TV model doesn’t support LPCM pass through and you are stuck with Stereo PCM audio from all DTS-encoded discs. This is a known issue with all Samsung TVs released in 2020.

I was thinking about purchasing the Philips sync box to use the led lights on the tv (I have hue lights in the house).  Would this suffice?

The Philips Hue box won’t do anything to change your TV’s inability to pass through LPCM or DTS audio. Your only options are to get an eARC adapter like the HDFury Arcana or get a new TV.

I am in the US, are there any alternatives to the Arcana?

There is the HD Fury Arcana, the Feintech VAX04101k, and the OREI HDA-935. You can also order from those links from the companies directly, or check your local retailers for availability. Amazon may carry some, depending on location. At this point, there may be more manufacturers, I haven’t been keeping track.
