Ive just bought a new LG c4 tv and connected my sonos beam.  what is the best cable to use, optical or HDMI?  Im currently using optical, but the LG controller wont adjustbthe volume and i feel like the sound quality should be better.

The HDMI connection to the ARC/eARC TV connection would give you a better connection with more functionality. Think Dolby Atmos...

As mentioned above, HDMI is the better option for the beam but for those of us with either the Playbar or, as is my case, the Playbase you need to dig down through the external devices settings to get the remote working better. You can also train another remote such as the apple tv remote.
