How to get Sonos Amp to play when using eArc from TV to receiver?
Hi all,
I am needing some assistance with trying to get sound from my Sonos Amp zone in the Kitchen to play with my living room.
My setup right now is as follows:
Sonos Port connected to Receiver using audio out (Sonos Port) & Audio in (receiver)
TV connected to Receiver via eArc
When I am playing sound from TV to receiver via eArc, how do I go about adding my zone in the kitchen to play along with my living room speakers? What is the proper input/output methods to getting this to work?
Thank you!

Why a receiver? The Arc is meant to replace a receiver.
But to answer your question, group the Amp with the Arc.
@jgatie - What is the best way I should have the TV connected to the receiver and Sonos Port?
This is how my setup is currently connected
Another user was having a similar issue yesterday and it was determined that digital signals were not able to be output through the analog out on his receiver — so his receiver would send his turntable audio to his Port, for example, but not his TV or game system. Perhaps yours has the same limitation?
I don’t think we have quite got to grips with the scenario yet.
If I understand correctly what you are trying to do (not necessarily the case), you need an OUTPUT from the receiver running to the line-in on the Port. You can then group the Port with the Amp in the kitchen. Or you may just need to specify the Amp as the Autoplay room for the Port.
So the question is whether your receiver has a suitable output connection. You might have a TAPE OUT connection for example.
I am not 100% sure you will be able to get perfect sync.

John that is correct. Tv is connected to receiver via eArc and port is connected to receiver.
The 2 scenarios - if I play Spotify on my TV. Music only plays from the living room zone only. I would like to in this scenario to have Sonos group multiple zones and play throughout.
2nd scenario - watching lives sports I want to group multiple zones.

Then this is probably the answer, when connecting the Port to an out on the receiver doesn’t get you any sound.
@106rallye Am I needing to connect an out from the receiver to the input of the port?
This is how I have it setup currently:
If you are looking to output the TV audio to your Kitchen Zone (which presumably is some other Sonos speakers), then you need to output the audio from your Receiver to the Sonos Port and play it’s line-in audio to the Kitchen devices.
At the moment, looking at the images posted, you have the Port setup to the Receivers line-in. You need to connect it to the Receiver line-out (if it has one?) and then to the line-in on the Port.
Edit: I see now the Kitchen zone is a Sonos Amp - anyhow, the above still applies.
Is that a Denon AVR-S750H by any chance? If so, the only output on that receiver is for a subwoofer -- you won’t be able to accomplish the setup you’re looking for.
@early rejecter & @Ken_Griffiths thank you. The receiver is the denon s760h. I’m relatively new to AV gear and do not know what a line out is.
I looked at the back of the s760h and I do not see a line out. Does the new Onkyo TX-NR6050 have what I need?

Yes - see attached extract from the Onkyo TX-NR6050 user manual, but also note the line-in on the Sonos Port will create a delay to the audio (approx. 75ms) when playing it’s line-in to the Kitchen Amp - so don’t expect the audio to play in sync with the Receiver speakers. You ‘may’ hear an echo depending on where you listen to the audio.. and what speakers you are able to hear from that position. If the rooms are entirely separate, then it’s probably not going to be an issue, but I mention it, just in case.
The Onkyo has the output, but note these limitations from the manual:
Ty for all the info. I’m considering since there are only certain instances where I would like to have audio from the tv play through all my Sonos zones ie watching a live event on tv or playing music from the built in tv apps I would hate to have to go out and buy another receiver I am wondering if in those instances I can just take the eARC connection from the tv and plug it straight into one of the Sonos amps as the line in and group from there?

Don’t see why not, but you would not then have sound in the TV room (which I guess may not matter as you are not in it in that scenario).
Another idea would be to swap the Amp and the receiver / Port. Connect the eARC to the Amp. then use the receiver as a HiFi amp in the other room with the Port. (That may be a good or bad idea, depending on what sort of surround set up you have.)
Personally, though, I would just sell the Denon and buy another Sonos Amp. Or an Arc. If you do with the Sonos ecosystem, it is generally best to go 100%.

You certainly can try that. You will still get an audio delay on whatever Sonos device is not connected to the TV though. And you would not get anything but stereo sound out of your receiver.
What are your TV input sources? You probably can connect those sources (cable tv, roku, DVD player) to your receiver directly and use the receiver for switching. The receiver will play TV audio from that without using eARC. Then, assuming audio is still passed to your TV, you could connect your Amp to the TV via ARC? Not sure if that will work.
