Bought new Samsung Q60T TV last Saturday & connected the S2 Connect Amp to Samsung TV through HDMI (2) eARC Connection.Afer spending good money & three days with Samsung Eng in setting TV up correctly he gave in & said phone Sonus

When the Sonus S2 is connected to the TV & my Sky Box to the other HDMI (1),it kills the sound on Sky & plays my Sky Box through the S2 but to the speakers hard wired to my S2.As these are in another room where my wife watches her tv ,it scares her to death.

Seriousy I believe it is something to do with infrared IR signal either through the remote, which will not reset the S2.When I went all the way through the Sonus Amp set up I cannot drive the sound through the TV,when this fails it Samsung ask me for the Sonus Serial Number,I enter the correct one & it will not take it - at this point Samsung Eng gave up

I’m really confused here.

For clarity:

The company name is Sonos.

The device is a Sonos Amp, if it is connected via an ARC connection. The Amp does not support eARC, only ARC. The CONNECT:AMP does not have an HDMI input.

The software running on the Sonos Amp would be S2.

CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is the connection between the hub (the TV) and the source (your Skybox), and the clients (the Sonos Amp). it is carried via HDMI. It is designed to recognize valid clients, such as the Sonos Amp, and is then obligated to send the sound to that client. It’s not an option in the CEC software.

OK, with those definitions out of the way, if you don’t want the speakers connected to the Sonos Amp to play the TV source, why did you connect the Sonos Amp to the TV via ARC? If you want the TV to play only on the TV’s speakers, you have two choices. One is to turn off CEC option the TV’s settings, or second, to just unplug the HDMI cable between the TV’s ARC port and the Sonos Amp.

Thank you for your advice but to be frank for a 72 year old who has spent 3days playing with the Samsung settings I am still confused.Can you advise;

What HDMI port do I connect the Sonus S2 Amp to, there are three,Number i I have the Sky Box connected to - works,Number 3 I have the DVD connected to - works & HDMI eARC which Samsung tell me to use - doesn't work.

To be clear I am trying to play my TV sound through the Sonus Playbar & setting up by connecting the Sonus Amp to the tv just like my old Samsung that worked

If you want your TV to play on the PLAYBAR, you should not be connecting an HDMI cable to the Sonos Amp at all. You should be connecting an optical cable between the TV set and the Sonos PLAYBAR. The Amp should not be ‘in the loop’.

Bruce,thank you but may I ask what is an optical cable.On the previous Samsung TV I had aUE48JU7000T it was set up with an HDMI cable & worked OK,quite obviously with this one it doesn't.Is an optical the one with two jack sockets labelled Black & Red

Is this a joke?

I note that your profile states that you store all your music on your iPhone and play it through the Sonos controller.  Is that correct?

Yes

To which of my questions is that the answer?

John B - I have just watched a YouTube video showing me how to connect the S2 Amp to a tv, I now know what & how to connect the Optical cable

Yes I do keep all my music on my I Phone

And Yes I play my music through the Sonus controller

Did I answer your questions ??

Indirectly you did, given that it is impossible to play music stored on an iPhone using the Sonos controller and the Amp has no optical connection.

John,maybe its me being thick but can I back track;

To get my Playbar play through the Samsung tv I connect with an optical cable & set up through the Sonus instructions

I have tried playing my music through the 2 x Play 1 & Soundbar using my I Phone as a source & it works OK,
