Just purchased a beam and wondering about optimal setup.
I have a Samsung TV which has 3 x Hdmi (one is ARC) and an optical connection.

I already have the 3 hdmi bring used by

sky q

xbox

nvidea shield

so I have made use of the optical connection for the Beam.

Am wondering if anyone can tell me if this is the optimal setup for my devices please? (I realise the most common connection for beam would be hdmi-arc)

Also if I don’t use the hdmi arc for the beam is one of my other devices better suited to that particular connection?

thanks

The difference between digital optical and digital HDMI ARC is zero, in terms of audio, so you’re not losing any ‘fidelity’. What you are missing is the extras that come with CEC, like some automated control commands, volume adjustment through the TV, automatic setting of the audio codec, nothing, in my opinion, that is worth the extra effort you’d need to go through to add an external switch device to free up that ARC HDMI port in the TV.

I’d leave it exactly as you have set it up.

Ok great thanks for your reply and info , much appreciated
