Hi all. I’ve got an LG G2 77” coming along with the Arc, Sub and two One SLs for surround.

I posted about the rear speaker placement and learned they’re best positioned at ear level slightly behind the listener (but in my case at the sides because the couch is against the wall).

I will use either the Sonos stands or the Sanus wall mounts with the One SLs.

Thread here with recommendations: https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/arc-5-1-2-or-5-2-2-rear-speakers-with-back-against-the-wall-6876479

Next, there’s lots of discussion around whether to mount the Arc on the wall or laying it on a console, and height. Good discussion here: https://en.community.sonos.com/setting-up-sonos-228990/arc-placement-6852427

Someone posted that ideally all atmos speakers are equally at ear level about 39.5” off the floor and that you should mount the arc at least 4-5” below the TV for the upfiring speakers to work. That would put the bottom of the TV at aorund 45” and the top at 83.5” with eye level below the bottom of the screen which is in complete conflict with everything I’ve read about TV placement.

Separately it’s recommended that the TV height be mounted with mid screen at eye level which would put the ideal Arc location smack dab in the middle of the screen, so it seems these two things are in conflict.

I’ll have a 20” tall console I could lay the Arc on. The ideal TV height to have mid screen at 42.5” eye level would put the bottom of the screen at 23.5” off the floor, just barely enough space for the Arc if sitting on the console.

I could mount the TV slightly higher so eye level is on the bottom 1/3 of the screen (bottom of screen around 29”) and then wall mount the Arc, but then I likely won’t clear the 4-5” below the TV rule — so then could use the sanus mount so the Arc can float out in from the of the screen but still be relatively close.

How do you all make the tradeoff between ideal Arc height and ideal TV height?

Would you recommend the Arc sit on a 20” console with the TV centered at eye level? Or have both the Arc and TV slightly higher with the Arc/Sanus wall mount setup?

I think  you’re way overthinking this… it doesn’t need to be perfect and never will be.

I would just go with a ‘happy medium’ and if the Arc is slightly lower than recommended, then simply boost its height channel volume in the room settings. It’s more important to perhaps get the viewing angle correct with the TV, when seated comfortably in the room, otherwise you might end up with neck-ache.

Dogdad you’re absolutely right! But I’m trying to reconcile the conflict between people saying all these things should be true (arc at ear level, TV at eye level and arc 4-5” below the TV) and the math doesn’t make sense. So just trying to get a sense for what other people have found works best.

It depends on your preference. Also the viewing distance does matter.

In my example… I first mounted the TV halfway eye-height from the couch, with 18 feet viewing distance. The Arc was 6 inch below. Peter Pee did recommend at least 6 inch for the upward speakers, so I did.

This was the result:

We found that for us, this was not ideal. We like to lean a bit comfortable on the couch, and therefore this position of the TV was too low. Especially the wife complained about this, and I don't need to tell you, I didn't had another choice than obey her wishes 😂

So that said, I had to spend another afternoon and this was the result:

As you can see it’s almost hitting the ceiling. The Arc is just a little above ear height, but it sounds perfect. We can now lean backwards and this seems (for us) the best position. At least now I don't have to hear every day, the screen is too low, and can just watch what I want in peace ☺️

Next step, now everything is in position, to redo the walls. But that's something for another day…..

Maybe this video also helps you decide where to place your Arc:

Super helpful JeroenVR!

I went with my existing cabinet, put the ARC on some short stands, about an inch, and the TV an inch above the Arc on a Sanus WSTV1 adjustable (height, tilt and pivot) mount. The TV could go several inches higher or a couple lower. The Arc stands are needed as the cabinet top is too small for the Sanus to clear the Arc.

Far from perfect but the sound is just fine to my ears.

We had issues with a shorter cabinet and our feet blocking the screen with the recliners full back.

If ARC is wall mounted under the wall mounted TV, the recommendation is allowing at least 4” between TV and ARC.

If ARC is sitting in front of the TV, the only consideration is ARC blocking the TV screen.

For homecinema visuals are key. I would work from that, rather placing the speakers in an imperfect place than the TV. In my case that means the TV is set much lower than in your pictures.

I can’t seem to post pictures from my iPad at this moment.
