Hi All

Newbie here and my 1st post.

Soon to be purchasing some Sonos gear but need some advice please.

I will soon be buying an LG Oled TV. to go with that I would like a great (surround) sound system.

I have been advised that I should get the following 

  • Sonos Arc sound bar 
  • Sonos Amp
  • Pair of Sonance/Sonos Ceiling speakers 

It has also been suggested to me that the Sonance/Sonos Ceiling speakers  have there own amp built into the speakers, therefore they only need power, and I would not need a Sonos Amp.

Is this correct ?
 

Also the Arc soundbar would be wired to the TV, but how would it connect to the Amp ? would it need to connect to the Amp ?

The Sonos/Sonance speakers are passive, they have no built-in amplifier.  You would need the Amp.

If you can, I’d advise against in ceiling surround speakers. For the best performance, surrounds should be at head height. Ceiling speakers are best for ambient, space filling music, not surround signals. A pair of Sonos One SL’s would be optimal for surround duties. If you wanted, you could still install the ceiling speakers with the Amp, and set them up for music use only. 

Oh, either the Amp or the two Ones would connect wirelessly to the Sonos Arc, using a 5Ghz signal. 

So If I had an Arc soundbar + a pair of one SL’s speakers would I need an Amp at all ?

The Amp would NOT be necessary with this setup. The pair of One SLs as surrounds would replace the Amp/passive speakers.

No, the One SLs don’t need the amp.  They are active speakers with the amp, as well as the other hardware needed to wirelessly connect to the Arc, incluced.

Since you budgeted for Arc, Amp, and 2  ceiling speakers, I would recommend going with Arc, 2 One SLs, and the Sonos Sub.  The Sub will make a big difference.
