I just purchased a Sonos Ace headphone set and cannot get it to connect with the app. I already have many Sonos products including Playbar, Play:3, Play:5 and a Connect. All of these I have to control through the Sonos S1 App on my phone. If I go to the “new” Sonos app, it’s like it’s not compatible with ANY of my old sonos equipment. And when I try to add my Sonos Ace it says it can’t find them. If I try to connect the new app with my existing system, it says all of my equipment must be controlled by the S1 app… which can not connect with my headphones. What gives?
ACE requires S2.
Certainly the PLAYBAR, and the PLAY:3 are S2 compatible. I’ve run both on S2, and am still running PLAY:3s.
Depends on which generation of the CONNECT and PLAY:5, but they might be.
Thanks for the responses. I figured it had something to do with S1 vs S2. However, I don’t understand that if I have the app where it says “add headphones” and I just bought the Sonos Ace headphones. Why in the world would it not be able to find them and allow me to work with them through the app? Regardless of what other components I have? It does not make sense.
S1 is maxed out on size, so they weren’t able to add the definitions of the Ace so S1 devices could communicate with it. S2 devices have more memory, so the definition for the Ace (and other newer Sonos speakers) can be added.
As to why your S2 app can’t find the headphones (if I’m reading your post correctly), I’m not sure. I’d probably call Sonos Support directly to discuss it.
