The Ace have a markedly better sound profile that my AirPods Max (AM); however the precision of the AM’s volume control, especially at the lowest volumes, is peerless. It is quite granular and decreases to the point of barely hearing sound. This allows me to read, write, reflect, or sleep without intrusion.
The lowest volume level on the Ace headphones is far too intrusive for the quiet enjoyment of one's music during said activities, which is a real shame (and perhaps not a priority for Sonos given the recent app debacle). I wear ANC monitors to shut out not create distractions, so it pains me to say that I may end up returning these despite my deep appreciation of their sound profile.
I would note that other OEMs (eg, Bose QC Ultra earphones and earbuds) have the same issue, but I expect better from a more expensive product. This feedback relates specifically to my use of the Ace headphones with my iPhone and iPad. I received and updated my Ace headphones today, which means that for me the issue persists as of the latest software update.
Hi @ace24
Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!
Just writing to say I have the same complaint and hope the team will work on this.
This desperately needs to be fixed. I need to use the Ace for background noise only in an already quiet environment, but the minimum volume is distractingly loud.
I'm trying to stream Amazon Music from the Amazon app and it is too loud.
If I could turn it down at least four more volume steps I'd be happy.
Setting the ear cups off my ears helps but destroys the noise canceling.
Could we get this bumped up from "On the list" to "Really soon?"
Thanks!

Hello,
I was able to fix this issue by doing the following on Android:
Enable Developer Options in System Settings
Disable Absolute Volume. This prevents syncing the system volume with the device Bluetooth volume.
Set the system media volume to about 50%.
Adjust volume on the Sonos Ace to comfortable listening level.

Hello,
I was able to fix this issue by doing the following on Android:

Disable Absolute Volume. This prevents syncing the system volume with the device Bluetooth volume.
Set the system media volume to about 50%.
Adjust volume on the Sonos Ace to comfortable listening level.
Just as a follow-up… Although this method does allow you to achieve a much wider range of volume control on the Ace, it is not really a solution. Firstly, I don’t know if you can achieve this on iOS. Secondly, every other headset I have used such as Pixel Buds Pro, Sony MX series, Microsoft Surface, etc is able to achieve full range of volume control without having to access hidden settings. There seems to be something different with how Sonos is utilizing volume control because it seems to be obeying the output level of the built in phone speakers rather than its own volume range.
Adding another “please fix this” to the pile. I received a pair for Christmas, and I love the sound profile, and the fit & finish is way better quality than the Sony or Bose I’ve been trialing them against. This is such a frustrating problem to me though, since I flat out can’t listen to some tracks because of sensitive hearing and some frequencies remaining especially loud at a volume of 2.
Look how many complaints there are about this issue…

Fix this simple issue. We paid $400 for these headphones and can’t listen to music at a low comfortable listening level. This is ridiculous at this point. I have never had such an issue with headphones before.
Yeah, no such system volume exists in iOS from the best I’ve been able to tell. The “reduce loud sounds” feature on iOS has its own bug that actually makes the volume louder at its lowest setting, so we’re stuck waiting on a fix from Sonos on this one. Or returning the headphones, which is looking increasingly likely for me.

Have the same issue with my Ace with every device I use, iphone, android phone or tablet, tv and all. It’s very frustrating as these are actually perfect headphones for me in any other aspect. But I need my headphones in bed when going to sleep as well which I absolutely can’t do with the Ace. I’d rather not return them but…

Sonos is not going to fix it. This company has lost the plot as far as I’m concerned. Dropping Google Assistant from their home speakers because it was too difficult for them was final nail in the coffin for me. Maybe Apple will buy them out and provide some actual competent software support.
I’m throwing my weight behind this.
The current lowest volume (running the latest firmware as of April 8, 2025) works fine in a noisy environment, but sitting at my desk in the office, or on a couch reading a book at home, it’s too loud. One of the primary reasons I bought these headphones was to use them in the office, so it’s disappointing that in a quiet setting like that, I can only use them for about 30 minutes before it becomes too much.
Adding to this as well. Have several Sonos speakers and they have been great. Bought the Sonos ACE maybe 3 weeks ago and they are way too loud on the minimum setting when listening on my iphone. I am running the latest firmware as of April 8, 2025. This issue basically prevents me from really being able to use the headphones.
