I cannot get my system to add any voice assistant.

I’ve purchased a Sonos Roam 2 - love the device, but getting it set up has been an utter pain. I’ve managed to get through the setup eventually, but the one item I can never get working is the addition of any voice control system. Every time I try to add one, the Sonos App goes into a long pause, and eventually tells me to make sure my mobile device is connected to WiFi.

I can confirm my app is the latest version, my phone is connected to the same wifi on the same freq as the Roam, and that the Roam has good signal. Even trying to link via Google Home does not work.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can get this to function? I’ve rebooted the speaker and the phone, still can’t get anything to work.

@Greysheep,

The Google Assistant is available on Sonos Arc, Beam (Gen 1 and 2), Move, One, and Roam only. See here:

I don’t think the Roam v2 supports the install, IIRC🤔?

It’s also only available in these Countries (see link below)…

Have you tried to call Sonos Support directly to discuss it? I haven’t added any voice assistant recently myself, so I haven’t had this issue. Note that Google requires that they are the only voice assistant on a device, so if you have others (Sonos or Amazon) you’d likely have to remove them before installing Google.

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

After a bricked Sonos Roam i ended up buying a Roam 2 and i can’t get it to function with a voice control either…. at the point of returning it as this is a key feature for me.

@Ken_Griffiths I’m using the Roam, first version.  So it is supposed to work.
Will try to add it with different phone.  See if the issue is the phone, who knows...

After calling Sonos about this issue they asked if I was using an Android device to setup the voice assistant, and I was. They told me that there is a known bug with android. I then tried with an ios device and it worked first time.

:-( Don’t think i’m going to buy a ios device to install this.  I suppose I need to wait and hope the bug gets fixed.  thx for you feedback @jibber1974.

Sorry I based my earlier reply on the fact the OP said they had a Roam 2 and you had stated you had the same issue. The earlier Roam should work normally, but if there’s a bug with Android (as mentioned) then I agree, it’s perhaps easier to just wait for the bug-fix.
